what? I'm eagerly awaiting my first trip to STJ in May. What's the one thing you have to do when you go to STJ?
Thanks!
We have been to St John a dozen times and everytime we stop at Truck Bay. It is truely breath-taking. Gets crowded mid day with cruise ship passengers but not really a big deal. Last year we spend 8+ hours there one day and had fun watching the crowds come and go. I still stand on the beach and look around in amazement.
I am going to STJ for my first time on April 9th (with no kids I might add).. YEAAAAAAAH 15 days away.
I'm a VIRGIN to the Carribean and can hardly contain myself any longer. I dont know what I am going to do when I see and get in that water. We booked a boat for the day through New Horizons Charters that goes to the Baths. I have heard that Trunk Bay is great with the snorkeling and looking at the plaques in the water.
Ok Im getting to excited now so Im gonna stop writing.

Snorkel, snorkel, snorkel and more snorkel. I really liked Water Lemon Cay last time we were there but there are lots of great spots. One of the best things about STJ to me is that you can just walk into the water from any number of beaches and see amazing coral and fish. STJ was my first experience with the Carribean 5 years ago and now I am totally hooked. Have fun!
You can't miss the hike down to salt pond bay and then pass that to Drunken Bay. Good stuff. Or Cheeseburgers for lunch atop Bordeaux Mountain.....thats a beauty.
Miss Lucy's restaurant. I'm hooked. Great food w/carribbean choices, tradewinds, goats, chickens, rum drinks, one of the most relaxing atmospheres and best views.
My husband and I are trying to plan a budget trip back to St John (we want to try to go just the 2 of us this year) and we've definitely factored Miss Lucy's in for which part of the island to stay on.
If you are interested in hiking (not the mountain climbing type) and learning about the history and natural beauty of the place, I strongly suggest the Reef Bay hike with the Parks Department. They take you to the trail head, walk you down the mountain past the Petroglyphs and on to the Sugar Plantation ruins, explaining the history and plant life along the way. You end up in Reef Bay, take a dip and take their boat back to Cruz Bay. The trail is easy, views are beautiful and Reef Bay is so isolated.
If you have not already done so, get one of the books sold from this board. 'STJ Off the Beaten Track' and "STJ on Foot and by Car' are both good.
We went to STJ for our 1st time. The best lookout is by the Concordia Campsites on the south east end - AWESOME VIEW!!
For giggles we put up our trip report with photos here.
Grinder...AWESOME photos and report! Ought to see about donating the rainbow pic to VINOW so we could have it for a wallpaper. 😉
Grinder,
Wow! I feel like I just got home from a wonderful week n STJ. I think I will visit your trip report whenever I need a vacation! 🙂

You cannot miss Cinnamon Bay!!!!! When I am at Cinnamon Bay, I look around and just feel that there cannot be one thing wrong in this whole entire world. That's a pretty amazing feeling!
