Terri - We have stayed at the Wyndham twice and throughly enjoyed it. The rooms are nice & clean (great view as well, totally worth the ocean view), food is yummy (esp breakfast), great pool complex, the beach is rocky though (but fine if you are going to explore the rest of the islands during the day), great spa, good alcohol selection, grounds are gorgeous. Also they have daily iguana feedings near the tennis court, which my kids (and us) enjoyed. Lots to do. Plenty of watersports there (kayak, parasailing, jet skis) and activities around the pool area. There are the infamous 99 steps down to the beach (which helps work off the alcohol 🙂 but they also have a shuttle running from the lobby to/from pool area every 5-10 minutes. You are also within 5 min of Red Hook, so you can catch a ferry to some of the other islands easily enough. You all will have a blast!

Thanks for responding. I was wondering if you know the best way to go about getting a package deal. I know there are so many places here on the internet and get real confusing. I would like to rent a car and explore the island and hopefully other islands. Do you recommend the all inclusive meal and activities plan?

Hi, I posted the following in response to another question about WSB for a honeymoon, but thought it might be helpful. ...

We also stayed at WSB in Dec. 06, for 7 nights. We did the all-inclusive, which we thought would be best traveling with a toddler. We thought the food was better than at most all-inclusives, but it's not going to surpass what you could get if you choose to eat off-site. If you are going to eat at the hotel most days, definitely go with the all-inclusive. If you like to branch out and will spend most of your time away from the hotel, don't bother.

We had the deluxe ocean view room and the view was truly amazing! The room was not very luxurious -- nothing 5-star -- but nothing to really complain about. I wouldn't advise leaving the patio door open at night - the sand flies are brutal!

The pool was cold, but it was kind of refreshing and usually pretty empty. I went in with my two-year-old a few times, and we enjoyed it. The beach is nothing compared to what's available on the rest of St. Thomas and St. John, so you'll definitely want to go elsewhere for the beach experience.

We met a lot of couples there on their honeymoons, and several who actually got married at the hotel, and they all said they really enjoyed the experience.

The grounds are beautiful, the staff was very nice and friendly, and we recommend the hotel to anyone who asks us! The spa, also, was very nice. My husband got a massage and said that they had a lot of amenities (sauna, showers) that made it "man-friendly," unlike some spas.

I know not everyone has a great experience at this hotel, but for us, it was a wonderful, relaxing vacation!

BTW, we booked online through Wyndham (I think they use Expedia) and by my account saved about 30 percent over booking each item (hotel, car, airfare) separately. I suggest if you haven't bought already, price out the differences! May not be the same for everyone, but that's how it worked out for us!

Sugar Bay will be ending their all inclusive package shortly. Better check with them before confirming reservations.

My husband and I stayed at the Wyndham back in September. We did the all inclusive-package and were happy we did. We'd go down and stuff ourselves on the breakfast buffet and then head out in the jeep and be gone til about 3pm. We'd grab a hotdog or hamburger, hang out at the pool til about 5pm. Then go up to the room to relax for a bit. Then we'd shower and go to dinner around 7pm. It was prefect for us to be able to eat on the grounds since we were gone for most of the day. Only thing I didn't like was the service at the restaurants. Everyone calls it "island time" but to me when you have no drink for the entire meal or you need something to go with your meal and don't get it even after you're done eating, that's called bad service. Other than that, the place was prefect for us.

i have to agree with Erinn (Hey there stranger)

The Wyndham was beautiful - everyone was so nice. The service & beach could have been better, but there is a perfect beach within walking distance (Coki Point). I don't know about Erinn but I tired of waiting for the shuttle. They have awesome iguanas and Danny at the pool is the greatest.

We plan to go back - but this time we will stay on St. John.

Have a great time
Jen

We always booked with www.cheapcaribbean.com. They always have a great deal. Didn't know they were doing away with the AI plan! What a bummer!
