My sister, hubby, son and wife won a trip through their work to the Wyndham on STT. All inclusive. Only 4 nights. Has anyone stayed there? Any information you can help us out with?

I have never stayed there, but I have been there for functions. (I live on St. Thomas.) The place is beautiful, and they're going to love it !!! The beach has decent snorkelling and is very pretty, but they'll probably want to go to the perfect Magen's Bay beach by taxi too. If they have never been to the USVI, they might want to head over to St. John as well. With only 4 nights, they might want to add somewhere else to their trip if they have time to stay more nights. There are nice camps in St. John too. (St. John is a 20 min. ferry ride from St. Thomas.) Your sister and her family are lucky! I hope they have a great time. That resort has tennis courts, paddle boats, mini-gulf, a very pretty pool, a hot tub, and much more. 🙂 Lucky - lucky - lucky !!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

oops, when I wrote "paddle boats", I meant bumper boats, but come to think of it, I think they rent paddle boats too. The place is great!

Good morning EL: Sounds like a nice deal! I'd suggest they rent a car as taxi fares can really add up and I'm sure they'd like to get out and explore. And they might like some time away from each other too! Sugar Bay is a very nice resort and I'm sure they'll have a good time. Give us a better idea of what they like to do either collectively or individually and we can come up with some more precise suggestions. Cheers!

Since they have only traveled to all inclusives on Jamaica and in Mexico (Riviera Maya region), I'm trying to encourage them to venture out from the "compound" a bit. I did tell them to check out a great restaurant I heard about called Toad and Tart. 🙂 My sister is a history buff, so some suggestions of historical places would be helpful. The young ones will most likely hit the beaches and chill. I'm hoping they make a day trip to St John and at least check out Trunk Bay and maybe one other beach. It's only a four day trip, so not much time to really see "it all". Any other suggestions?

They will have a wonderful time at the Wyndham - don't forget to feed the Iguana's for me 🙂

I was going to suggest the same thing, about venturing out. Since they didn't pay for their meals at the Wyndham I hope they wouldn't feel compelled to have all their meals there, but rather try some of the many wonderful restaurants on the island. Then again, free eats is free eats, and that may give them the ability to try some other excursions on the island. Like you, I do hope they take the opportunity to travel around a bit.

They'll love the Wyndham! We have done the AI plan a couple times, and it worked great. They have just an AWESOME breakfast buffet, so you can eat to your hearts content, go out of the "compound" to do some beach hopping during the day. If you return around 3:00, you can grab a burger/chicken/hot dog at the hut in the pool area. If you want to eat dinner there - - great. If not, you're SO close to Red Hook with many choices for good restaurants. We're big fans of Sopchoppy's (now Island Time Pub) with their cheap (yet DELICIOUS) pizza and beer. They won't feel bad spending the extra money to eat here, since it's not a lot.

Other than food, the rooms are very nice (the ocean view is definitely worth the extra money). Pool area is also great. They have a shuttle going down to that area very frequently. Restaurants are also good, albeit island time. Beach is not so great - - but who cares! And the iguanas! Too fun. Have to do the feedings each day at the tennis court. Tell them to join the Wyndham by Request club, since they'll get cheese/wine in their room upon checkin and also an extended check out time. You're also treated much better.

So jealous!!

They can go to Blackbeard's. They have complete tour with great historical attributes. At the Wyndham there is also a small casino of sorts.

Husband and I are thinking of going here for 7-8 days in December, but have never done an all inclusive. We've camped St. John, condo-ed at St. Croix, and been staying at Bolongo and later Secret Harbour for years . We love the freedom of a car and visiting restaurants and beaches and know the island well, but never stopped in at the Wyndham to check it out. The hills and the driving are too much for us now, and we think we might be able to stay put. We enjoy quiet beach front units, coffee maker and small fridge at a minimum, access to beach chairs without getting up at 6 to go grab one (never necessary at either Bolongo or SH). We know we can cab it to Red Hook or Sapphire for a couple of day sails. Do they run a shuttle into town? Do the restaurants offer enough variety in options? Is it over run with little kids? Do you really have to take a bus to the beach from the rooms? Can one snorkel on the property? It looks great in the ads, but we know that isn't always true. Really looking for some input from those who have stayed there. Thanks for any advice.

I've only been to the Wyndham for the day (we own next door at the Point Pleasant Resort).

The food is OK.
Yes, there are lots of children at the Wyndham.
The beach is OK (but small).
Snorkeling is better around the front of Point Pleasant.....even better at Coki Beach.
Doubtful if they shuttle you into Red Hook (the Taxi drivers would not like that).
Yes, you take a shuttle to the beach...or walk down several flights of stairs.
As for the "All Inclusive".....you will miss the other great restaurants around the island.

I guess everyone is different, and of course everyone has an opinion....ReepingWay, I think Wyndham Sugar Bay is a great place. I've stayed there twice (just stayed a week, last month). In my opinion, you'd love it there, based on what you wrote. Yes, there are stairs to the pool and beach area, though you can take a shuttle, too. Just MY opinion, and like I said, everyone's is different!

The Wyndham is fine and a very well-kept property. However, you won't be getting beachfront accommodation and I don't think you'll have a 'fridge or a coffee maker at your disposal. Interestingly enough the property is in the final stages of going completely AI which is a highly unusual move on an island where AI has never been really successful. The last management team were going completely the other way but this new team seems to know something none of the rest of us know (!) and it'll be interesting to see how it works out.

I've never heard anything completely negative about the restaurants or the food but then I've never heard anyone say, "Wow, I had a GREAT dinner at Sugar Bay last night!" With a captive AI audience the food is obviously going to have to be pretty top notch and maybe the changeover to AI will also see something in the way of shuttles to town, etc. Who knows - I know several people on staff there and even they're not being told much at all about what's going on. Hope that helps a little!

Our room had a fridge and a coffee maker. We thought the food was great, but then again, we're not too hard to please....

I am staying at the Wyndham Sugar Bay for my first trip to USVI and arriving on July 4th. Is there any view of fireworks from Sugar Bay?
Also I'm reading that there's lots of kids but I prefer to hang out with adults, Do the kids dominate all the swimming pools like some hotels?
I was going to use cabs and shuttles instead of renting a car on my trip and I am going alone.
Is that a good idea to utilize cabs or should I rent a car?

Please advise

cmscorpio,

We didn't notice an overabundance of kids when we were there last month (there were a few), but they weren't overrunning the pools and beach, etc. It was all pretty tame, but then I guess summer is kind of the off season. We rented a car, and were glad for the freedom it gave us to move around. I think after several taxi fares, the rental probably pays for itself, depending of course, on how long you are staying and how many trips you make. This site gives pretty good info about taxis, rentals, etc. I don't know about the fireworks - a couple of the folks who have posted above are residents....they could probably tell you.

Anyway, have a great time!
