Has anyone stayed at the Wyndham lately or heard any news regarding their resort in St. Thomas? We will be there in 3 weeks and I can't get them to answer any of my emails.

I appreciate the help

Hi. Funny you should write... I was getting ready to do just the same thing and about this very subject. We will be staying at the Wyndham Sept. 9-16. We purchased the all-inclusive package and I am very concerned since we spent a lot, or what we think is a lot, of money for this. I wish I had done more research before we paid for everything because I've seen/read a lot of not-so complimentary things about their service, food, beach, etc... I will be interested to hear back from everyone. And I'm hoping someone will make me feel better about my purchase!

Erinn:

We're staying next door at Point Pleasant for the same dates.

The WSB is a very nice place. Try running a search on this site as others have provided a lot of detailed info.

I would have recommended against the all inclusive plan since there are many fine restaurants in the Red Hook area and beyond. But I know the all inclusive feature puts a fixed price on your expenses. Although we have visited the WSB we have never eaten there.

I hope that you're renting a car...taxis are very expensive...especially for a weeks stay.

Sugar beach is nice, but you'll also want to visit other beaches like Coki, Megans, Sapphire to name a few.

Maybe we'll run into each other....

Regards,

F.I.

Thanks, F.I., for your comments. I have been checking this site almost daily for a few months now and I think I've seen all the comments on WSB. Some good comments, and some bad. My husband, Mr. Cheapy (or Mr. Frugal...however you want to look at it) had a fit when he found out how much the trip would cost but reluctantly agreed to go so let's just hope for the best. I still welcome any other comments and suggestions about WSB and/or comments about staying in STT in September.

Jen - maybe some of your questions that were emailed to the WSB could be answered on this site?

Guess what? We will be honeymooning from September the 10th thru the 19th 🙂 We might just see each other on the beach 🙂

We havent decided on the car rental yet. The airlines just notified us that our flight was changed, now we will be on the plane for 5 hours and 40 minutes. Bug is going to need several strong drinks to survive!! That is just one flight from Dallas to Puerto Rico.

Congrats on the upcoming wedding! I remember those days before the wedding... Do you still have hair? Or have you pulled it all out?! We're approaching our 6th anniversary.

What were some of your concerns/questions with Wyndham? I wonder if we share the same concerns. Do you know if they give you beach towels? Or should we bring our own?

I wanted to know about the maid service, I've heard complaints about them not cleaning daily.

Do they have a hotel shuttle? Do they have any specials for couples? I would like to surprise my new husband with drinks/dinner in our room.

I think they have a shuttle that goes to other places as well - might save us on car rental.

Just general stuff. I'm getting excited...counting down the days. The wedding I'm not worried about (today) - we both were married before, have lived together for over 4 years...so we don't have any expectations. We just want it to be all about the two of us...that is what matters. If nobody shows up...nobody shows up.

We are both excited 🙂

I've read on this message board before that the Wyndham does not offer room service. I was very disappointed to hear that, believe me.

Not sure about the shuttle, although I've read that they have a shuttle between the hotel and the beach since it's a 98 step trek down to the beach from the hotel. Atleast, that's what I've read. Our package deal includes the shuttle from the airport to the WSB but I don't know that it's their shuttle specifically. Good question though and I'd like to know more about this shuttle. And the cleaning service as well! I must have read the same things as you about that. Hopefully someone can comment and help us out!

I hope that we (my fiance and myself) didnt make a mistake by reserving at WSB - not a lot we can do about it now.

It's my honeymoon for goodness sakes. The wedding can be a flop but I have been dreaming about this trip for a long long time.

Jenn:

It's not a mistake. The WSB is a nice place. STT is a very nice place....so nice that we bought a condo there over 2 years ago. We love the islands! We visit as much as we can....3 to 4 times per year.

Relax.....enjoy your wedding.....then enjoy your honeymoon....make the best of it! Visit Red Hook, STT beaches, St. John (Honeymoon Beach is our favorite), BVIs, and try a day sail, etc.

It seems that you're having second thoughts about the WSB....it really is a nice place...don't put too much emphasis on other people's opinions...they may have had a bad day/bad experience and then picked on everything...yes the maid may not have swept under the table......ignore it and look out the window at the most incredible view that you'll see from the WSB....I know I'm next door at Point Pleasant (same view).

Congrats & regards,

F.I.

Jeniffer,

I don't think I'd get to hung up on the room, chances are you'll spend more time out exploring STT, going to the beaches, dining out, bar hopping in Red Hook than in the room it's self. And if your trip "flops" (which is highly unlikely) you can always have a "do over" and return to STT 🙂 We spent our Honeymoon on STT the same week as you but in 1989 and got hit by a hurricane, Hugo. Even with that we had a great time, pre-Hugo.

Relax, enjoy, congrats, keep an open mind.

My family stays there when the come here to see me. Its a nice place the food is good. They clean your rooms daily, unless you sleep in to late. Then they might come back. and they might not. He always gets the all inclusive. They always have breakfest, never lunch, and dinner most of the time. and says it is cheaper then eating every meal off property. If you are not super picky you will have a great time there. Enjoy

Ya'll have really put my mind at east. We arent picky people - we just want a clean place to flop/pass out 🙂

Maybe I'm a little overwhelmed with the wedding - more so then I thought. "sigh"

Ok gang - No more worries - It's going to be a great trip!!

Thanks again!!

I agree with the WSB comments. We've stayed there twice in the last 3 years. We are very happy with it. The pool is nice and clean. Great drinks - - the all-inclusive is the way to go. There is a shuttle that takes you from the lobby to the pool/beach area. Or you can do the "99 steps" to work off breakfast. The beach is OK. A lot of rocks, so bring water shoes. You will definitely want to check out the other STT beaches as well as STJ. We had maid service every day, so I'm not sure what that comment was about. Great location about 5 min from Red Hook, so taxi service is cheap for you to check out Duffy's (fun bar for later in the night), Sopchoppy's (great pizza) and of course the ferry to STJ or Virgin Gorda or Tortolla. As far as "special" dinners, you can make reservations for the sit-down dinner which is very nice. Otherwise it's the buffet - - which was fine for me. Other discriminating pallets may disagree. Great breakfast.

Relax - - you did the right thing!

I appreciate your comments. You've made me (and Jen too probably) feel a lot better about my choice!!! Any chance you know if WSB provides beach towels? And beach chairs on the beach?

Yes, they do provide beach towels at a watersport center in the pool area at the exit to the beach. You can sign up for kayaking, parasailing and jet skis there too. They can also set you up for daysailing and sunset cruises.

The chairs are on the beach and by the pool (and fairly available all day).

One other tip - - iguanas are everywhere there! They have feedings by the tennis courts each day around 11 am (I think - - you may want to check the activity calendar). They are very harmless, but they LOVE red toe polish. They will go right up to you if you wear it. It's that they love cherries and/or the color red. So, if you really like iguanas wear the red polich, if not - - go for light pink! THey also love lettuce if you want to feed them, although they discourage that.

Actually since the mini golf course has been constructed, the feeding of the Iguanas has been moved to the other side of the pond. Also I have just learned that the construction of a small bumber boat pool for the kiddies has started.

Do you plan on taking a daysail? I just found a great one 🙂

Day sail? To be honest, I haven't planned much other than snorkeling, snorkeling and more snorkeling on STJ. What have you found? Is there a website I should look at?
