I have visited the islands in the past but now am wondering about coming there on a boat. I've heard some horror stories but I tend not to believe them. I am a 64 year old man who has/had lung cancer so I'm not to concerned about my own personal safety but about others who may join me!

Boaters tend to look out for each other.
You might want to check out or call DPNR to find out about boat registration, mooring and other fees as well as places that allows anchorage. Some areas have limits as to length of stays, especially STJ in National Park locations.
