My wife and I plan to be on St. Thomas Jan & Feb 2008.
We are looking at the possibility of moving to St. Thomas.
I have managed & supervised resorts & hotels for the last 30 years.
I would be interested in working with resorts or hotels if there is a need for people with my experience.
Is there a need for Sales & Marketing Hotel people on a temp basis?
Since I have owned several boats I would consider supervising a marina also.
Many of the major resorts here post job openings online. It sounds like you would qualify for a job here. I don't know that they would hire someone on a temp basis though. You might want to consider selling timeshares, although I have heard it can be rather competitive.
You should go to the relocation forum on this website (see "other forum" top right of this page.) If you go to the "sticky" at the top of the page posted by board moderator Islander you will find links to pretty much everything you need to know about relocating to the Virgin Islands. Also read the "moving stories," go through the different posts and use the search engine to find a huge amount of information.
By the time you make your visit at the beginning of 2008 you can treat that as your PMV and do all the things recommended to see if island living is for you. Anything in the hotel/tourism business on a "temporary" basis isn't likely - unless seasonal bartending/serving fits the bill - and (as you'll quickly discover from researching the relocation forum) most prospective employers want to see you once you are on island and are disinclined to even answer queries from anybody off-island.
Happy researching on the relocation forum and good luck. Cheers!
Check-out trying to work for Starwood - there is a Westin on STJ, but I imagine lots of folks compete for jobs there.
DO NOT go into TimeShares sales - there is a special place in H*ll for TS sales people {insert humor icon here...}
