AS STATED IN EARLIER MESSAGES, WE ARE GETTING MARRIED IN OCT ON ST JOHN. WE HAVE APOWERBOAT RENTED FOR A DAY AND WE PLAN ON DOING A LITTLE ISLAND HOPPING. THE WEBSITE FOR THE WILLIAM THORTON PIRATE BOAT/BAR LOOKED KIND OF INTERESTING AND WE WERE WONDERING IF IT IS WORTH A LOOK. THE FUTURE BRIDE THINKS IT LOOKS KIND OF CRAZY. ANYBODY HAVE ANY THOUGHTS? ALSO, FOR THE LAST FEW VISITS WE HAVE BEEN EATING AT A GREAT LITTLE PLACE ON ST THOMAS CALLED CAFE AMECHE. IT IS NEAR THE RIISE STORE. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF RICK IS STILL THE OWNER? THANKS AND WE HAVE REALLY ENJOYED READINGTHE MESSAGE BOARD.
The William Thornton is anchored (more or less permanently) in the Bight at Norman Island, British Virgin Islands. To get their from St John you need to to go up the Sir Francis Drakes Channel which is between Norman and Tortola. The distance, if I remember correctialy as about 20 nautical miles. This can be anything from a Sunday sail to a rough ocean passage depending upon the weather. The real problem is the return trip.
Fortunatly we had a sober, experienced captain who returned us all safely home. Staying their is even a better option, which we did on another occasion.
The William Thornton is ,as I "remember" a true "party boat". It is best left to bareboaters who can stay at their moorings until morning.
Go towards Jost Van Dyke this trip.
Yes Cafe Amici is still there (340)776-5670
