We have been to St. Thomas which I thought was too congested and commercialized. Then we tried St. John and fell in love with this island. I would like to do a 2 week vacation pairing St. John with a week on St. Croix .What can I expect when it comes to traffic, snorkeling etc.? What is the easiest way to travel between these 2 islands? For some reason I think St. Thomas will be a factor here 🙂 Thanks!

Carolyn

Any travel between STJ and STX will be through STT. Look at the websites for Seaborne Airlines and CapeAir.

First of all, we love St. Thomas and have been visiting every year for about 15 years. However, this year we added a trip to St. Croix onto a week on St. Thomas. I sit now on the terrace overlooking a beautiful sandy beach. On Saturday we took the sea plane from St. Thomas to St. Croix. Great fun. Yesterday we drove out to Point Udall, stopped at wonderful Cramer Park, and drove along the East end south shore on the way back. Simply beautiful. All but the getting lost bit as we get nearer to our hotel, Hibiscus Beach Resort. We are on our way to Christiansted in a few moments. So far, we're glad to have made the decision to visit St. Croix.

Isn't it true there is ferry service now between St. Thomas and St. Croix......how rough is it for those who have the trip and how long does it take?
Thanks again!

The ferry boat ran aground. I don't believe it has been replaced, so no ferry service at this time. When it is running (if it runs again) it takes about 90 minutes and is usually a pretty rough ride. If the seas are too rough, the ferry cancels with very little warning.

STX has it's own unique flavor. Me and hubby stayed for a week @ the Palms at Pelican Bay.

The food was incredible, our resort fabulous but the snorkeling was bad. I think we were just there at a bad time.

The roads are 100% better then STT!!

Go to STX you won't be sorry 🙂

I personally do NOT recommend the ferry from St. Thomas to St. Croix. IT IS MISERABLE, choppy water and horrible. My first indication was when they handed me a little bag on entry to the ferry. Much better to spend a few extra dollars and fly. Be aware of the luggage restrictions when flying though, it gets pricey if you have lots of luggage.

From St John I'd take ferry to St Thomas. The Seaplane (next door to ferry)is easier than airport, a fun different way to fly plus it lands downtown Christiansted. St Croix is way laided back compared to St T
