Hi everyone,

Well, we're leaving tonight... arriving on St. Thomas tomorrow!! Woo-hoo!

I read on another board that not many restaurants serve iced tea on St. John. Is it the same on St. Thomas as well? Now, I know you're all going to say we should be drinking rum drinks anyway, so why bother with iced tea... but we love iced tea too!

Does anyone know of any restaurants that serve it on STT or STJ? Not that we'd select a restaurant for this reason alone, but I'm curious to know.

Also, would restaurants serve it sweetened or unsweetened? I am going to bring a baggie of Splenda packets and hope to find tea that is unsweetened, so I can sweeten it myself.

Thanks everyone!!

Carole

I ususally carry tea bags with me (even here at home since not many places have de-caf) and if they don't serve it or only have the iced tea that comes from those awful mixes, I order a cup of tea with lemon and a couple of glasses of ice and make my own! Never had a problem with ordering it unsweetened prior to my going de-caf but I always asked if it was brewed or if from a mix , then passed and made my own if it were. Never had a problem with doing so anywhere. .

I serve "the (already sweetened) iced tea that comes from those awful mixes" which most people seem to like but if a customer prefers a regular glass of iced tea then that's simple enough to prepare. I think you'll find that most restaurants can accomodate that. Decaf you should bring your own as although most restaurants will have decaf coffee on hand, I doubt you'll find many serving decaf tea. Have a wonderful vacation!

Thanks CShell and STT Res - I'm OK with caffeinated, although I do make decaf tea when at home. I'll do exactly what you said... order a cup of tea and 2 glasses of ice if they don't serve iced tea. I can even do the "awful mixes" tea once in awhile... I just don't care for soda.

I drink unsweetened iced tea and have never had any difficulty getting it anywhere I've asked for it on St. Thomas.

Didn't mean to make it sound so .... whatever. Sorry if someone was insulted - Aside from the fact that I don't use sugar (or sweeteners) one of the preservatives that is used in many things including the iced tea mixes, is a unpronouncable and unspellable one that I am allergic to and causes my GI system to mutiny! I do recognize it when I see it on labels - thankfully. Same for the tea that comes from the machines like the soda and I can't drink the bottled iced teas either!
That aside, I am wondering who is the STTResident or is it a well-kept secret?

CShell, STTResident is owner and operator of an English Pub on STT. And, yes, she is authentically from England! She has been a staple of these forums for longer than most of us have been here, but she tends to frequent the resident forum more than this, the visitor side, of these forums.

Her place is called "Toad and Tart" and is in Smith Bay (across from the Wyndham and/or Point Pleasant Resorts). He drinks are strong and inexpensive. Her clam chowder is the best I've ever tasted (I live in the Northeast - I've tasted lots of chowder). Stop in to say hello to her and grab a drink and a bite next time you are on island.

Lipton makes an Ice Tea bag that is cold brewed. I use it all the time at home and on our boat. At home I'm only able to get the regular tea but on STJ I was able to get a box of decaf. I personally hate any type of sweetener in my tea so if I see that they just have Snapple or ice tea from one of those awful mixes I take out a cold brew and put it in a glass of ice water. I've been able to get unsweetened ice tea at a lot of places on STJ. Skinny's makes their own and keeps pouring it for you.

Ok...phew....Carole should be loading her bags int othe car right now. She was getting anxious with all of the last-minute questions and I hope she has since started to decompress a little.

I think she has 2 solid weeks ahead, so she should have plenty of time to get relaxed and perfect her lim'.

Have a great time Carole!! Good vacation vibes being sent your way!

Thanks, Blu. Wasn't sure which proprietress it was who was posting since there are at least three who I know of who frequent the web! I guessed that maybe it was the "Toad and Tart" since I recall Anna posting here years ago when the board first started.
BTW, I still have one of the little bitty Brit flags that comes stuck in the top of the Sheppard's Pie on my kitchen shelf! Beer is definitely the liquid of choice there! And the "weekend" specials .... yum ... the duck on Thursday nites included.

On St. John, I've had unseetened brewed iced tea at The Banana Deck and Panini Beach.
The Lime Inn also serves a minted brewed iced tea which is fabuous. During the daytime, they serve fresh squeezed lemonade, and you can have that mixed with your iced tea as a "swampwater." They will bring you a carafe if you like.

I myself haven't been to a restaurant in STT that DOESN'T serve regular iced tea!

And the really good thing about drinking iced tea is that the refills are often free, contrary to Cokes or other soft drinks.

Thanks everyone!! Made it to St. Thomas yesterday. We're at the Marriott.

Funny thing... we got lost trying to find Cuzzins last night and ended up at the Cost-U-Less!! So we ate at a small place in that shopping center - Kokopelli. The food was surprisingly GREAT... thin crust crispy pizza (we had spicy sausage with fresh spinach pizza), spinach salad with candied walnuts, and 2 pasta alfredos with chicken for the kids. I asked if they had iced tea and they did so I ordered it. The tea was awful!! But the food was exceptionally good, for a pizza type joint.

Well, there's my first attempt at ice tea!!

If anyone can tell me how to get to Cuzzins from the Marriott that would be great. I was trying to read the street signs (and it was starting to get dark) while hubby was busy "staying left" and could never find Back Street last night. So if anyone can tell me in terms of store front locations, rather than street names ("turn right at Wendy's", etc.) I'd greatly appreciate it!!

From Frenchman's Reef- Head toward town (RT 30)- PASS the paid parking lot and then take a right on the further side of Vendor's plaza (Emancipation Garden). This right hand turn will bear left and this will put you on to Main St. - One Way going West. You will then need to take a right (can't remember how far down Main st. you would need to go before taking this right, tho I know Cuzzin's is toward the East End of Back St)- one block back and then take a right onto Back St. .

What I don't know- (Can't remember unless I actually went down to ck this out)!
Can they park CLOSE TO Cuzzin's, in other words- where should they park?

I obviously don't head to town often!

Hope this helps SOME! 🙂

Thanks Bluwater... we'll definitely try to park in front. Hoping we go tonight.

Ate lunch at Blue Moon Cafe at Secret Harbour today. The iced tea there was VERY good (can't believe I'm reporting on iced tea!!). The food was really good too.
