Anyone who has been on this baord for a while might know that my most favorite beach on STT is a little heavenly piece of sand called "Platform". A few years ago, a Local took me there and introduced me to this special place. It required a brief hike in and out....and was usually empty or maybe had one other couple of family on it.

About a year ago, someone started to clear the land above the beach and we assumed a house would go up. Rumors were that the land alone was purchased for something in the area of $800k. I worried about access issues, but never about the beach iteself.

Two days ago, the same person who introduced me to the beach sent me the photos below. Apparently, the house is being built pretty much right ON the beach. I don't know much about construction, so maybe I misunderstand what I am seeing. But, apparently, the locals in the area are also pretty upset about how this is shaping up.

See for yourself....if you stand on Magens Bay and look left and out past the midway point of the peninsula, you'll see this nightmare.

Here's an old photo I had of the beach...

The construction site - see the beach just below.

These rocks are sitting in the sand - you can see the sand on the left side.

I wish i had a better photo of the beach itself because the beach is really small. There might be, at a given time, 10 feet between where these boards are and where the water is.

I have been on the beach when the water is all the way up to these rocks(shown below). I guess people can do anything they want if they can afford it...but I wonder if they realize that people will come to this beach to use it (it can be accessed via water or along sandy areas from other sand pockets nerby). I wouldn't want my house to be build that close to a public beach....unless they somehow bought the beach, too.

Is that all sitting on the dirt in Blu's pictures??
Didn't you forget the house or something??
Or, does everybody live over the septic system??
Well,..if you have a DVD.

Dream and everyone else,

David's rental home, Villa Fairwinds, is NOT the home being built in these photos. His home is a longstanding villa on the other side of Peterborg - the better side, IMO - facing Northeast. I stayed there last fall and long to return.

The home in the photos above is a new home being built now - on the South side of Peterborg peninsula (facing Magens Bay). David has nothing to do with this one. He was only commenting on what might be going on with the construction site since he is in the construction business.

The photos of Villa Fairwinds are in my trip report from Sept 06. Here it is..

I think everything got confused on this thread.

Steff, Thanks for straightening out any confusion there might have been. It certainly would be difficult to rent a week in the house under construction at Platform. I have not been there for 2 months but will be in Sept so I'll let you know what progress(???) is going on there.
David
