Good evening. I hope eveyone is well. I just rented a cabin at Ivans campground for a saturday night in Dec. We're staying on STT at Secret Harbour, and were wondering. What is the best way to get to Jost? I know about the ferry, however times are limited. How expensive are the water taxi's. If we chose to take the ferry, is it best to take the 8am or the 2pm ferry. Dont want to have to get up too early on vacation unless necessary. Would arriving in the afternoon be enough, or do you really need the extra hours on Jost. As always your help and advise is greatly appreciated. 25 days and counting ..................Quig

Hello Quig,

Water taxi rates, you can find at http://www.watertaxi-vi.com/.

You will have enough time taking the 2pm ferry over, spending the night and the next morning through mid-day there.

Enjoy!

Good morning. Thanks Islander, as always, your advise is well respected. And I believe you're right. 24 Hours sould be enough time, and I think the ferry service from Red Hook will work just fine. I don't want to assume anything. So, I'm going to ask this question. On the ferry rates "round trip" is not limeted to same day travel is it? Meaning, our round trip fare will be good the next day for our return to STT. I want to thank everyone again for all of the help and advise. As always, wishing everyone is well........Quig

Hi Quig-

I remember asking myself these questions in June of 04 when we planned a one night stay on Jost (at Ivan's). We never did get over there because we were too spoiled by the villa> But, I have been to Jost on many occasions and my advice is that the 2pm ferry should be enough.

Of course, these things are subjective. I would plan on getting a ride over (or hiking if you are up to it) to the other side of Jost and visiting the bubbly pool and enjoying some of the scenery. Here is the bubbly pool:

Also, stroll down to the Soggy Dollar Bar and have a few painkillers. Then stroll down to Foxy's and see if he's around. Pick up a hat or T shirt. My Foxy's hat always gets attention. People tend to give you that knowing smile. The roti at Foxy's is pretty good.

Don't forget to take a stroll down main street for some world class shopping 🙂
Here is "Main Street" on Jost:

Enjoy.

I can understand your on vacation and 8 am seems radically deviant from relaxing schedulles, but believe me, the earlier you get to Jost Van Dyke, the better, because when the time comes to leave, you might regret that you couldn't stay longer...
You'll see what I mean...
Have a beautifull time, and take a hike, theres some awsome roks up on top of the island...look arround the highest point for a jar full of messages from others who have been blessed with the oportunity to visit that little island full of wonder.
