Has anyone stayed here on Jost Van Dyke? If so, how was it? We are planning on going to Jost on a Friday and stay the night so we can see more than just Soggy Dollar Bar. We have a cabin reserved for the 7th. Yes, I know it is rather primitive but it also sounds like a great adventure. How close is it to Foxys?

6 weeks and counting!

I stayed at Ivan's cabins for a week about one year ago. I thought it was great fun but then I'm not a high maintenance person. You have to walk a ways down a path to use the restroom and the shower, no warm water in the shower. I loved the music, the bars, the beach, the bubbly pool...the whole shebang!

Foxy's is on the next bay (Great Harbour) over. It is a good hike (15-20 minutes) or a cab ride.

We stayed at Ivan's for a Friday night last year. I really enjoyed it! No pressure to get it all in too quickly so you can catch the return ferry. I still remember how happy I was when I realized the ferry had left and I was still there! Cabins are pretty primitive. No problem for me, but when I awoke and turned to say hello to my wife, she kind of freaked-out about the green bug perched on my head! It was harmless, but (although I wouldn't call her high maintenance either), she won't go back to a cabin.

If you want Foxy's BBQ Dinner - make reservations now. We didn't know to and when we arrived, they were pretty put-off by our just showing up. We did get to eat, but got absolutely lousy service. Dinner was fantastic, and I really didn't care about the service - we were on JVD!

Take a taxi to Foxy's. There's a guy named Greg who has a really nice Bronco. Look for him. If you find him, have him show you the DVD of German documentary in which he was featured 20 years ago. He's a really nice guy and the video is fun - he'll tell you some stories along the route.

Good Luck! Have Fun!

You will love it. We will be there next week at this time and I can't tell you how excited we are. The cabins are definately primitive to say the least but if you can do without the luxuries of home you'll be fine, after all you are just in them to sleep! Ivan's is out of this world layed back, great people, honor bar, the beach is beautiful and you will meet the most amazing people. Make a point to seek out Ivan. He's fantastic. From White Bay you are about a 20 minute walk to Foxy's, you'll climb a steep hill and then head down into the bay. Foxy's is all the way at the end on the left. If you aren't into walking look for "Bun", he's a hoot and 1/2. It's pretty cheap to cab it so depending on your mood and or the energy for exercise you can get to Foxy's relatively quick. Have a great trip and just relax and enjoy yourself!
5 days and counting!

We'll be on STJ next month and decided to do the same and stay at Ivans for a night (4 person cabin). We really wanted to spend more than just an afternoon there - we spend our honeymoon at Sandcastle last July and had a GREAT time. Just had a question about the cabins, do we need to bring blankets, pillows, etc? I know we'll need towels, but I didn't know how much they provided as far as bedding. Thanks!

Had bed linens in the cabin already. Screened windows. Door with a lock. Electric fan. Single bulb ceiling light fixture.

Rustic, but safe.

Thanks for all the input everyone. The only bad thing is....now I am even MORE anxious to get there!

Btw, what is a bubbly pool? A hot tub?

Bubbly pool is the naturally made spot on JVD that the surf meets the rock formations and the land. It's quite a rush when you put your head down where the water meets the skinniest point of entrance and you try to remain upright. The bubbly pools are located on the farthest end of the island out near Foxy's Taboo. You park in the sand and walk about 5 minutes and you'll find the neatest little natural pool. Worth the 5 minute walk!

Sounds very cool. So, if I ask someone there, they would be able to direct me? We have never been further than Soggy Dollar Bar on JVD so I have no clue of what area you are talking about.

Yes, the island is very small, everyone will know what you are talking about. A good thing to do is to rent a car for a day or get a cab over to Foxys Taboo, have lunch, then hike over to the Bubbly Pool. I was there this summer though, and it wasn't exactly "bubbly". It only gets that way when there are northern swells - which typically happen in the winter months I believe. Regardless though, it's still a very cool spot.
