We are looking for a private fast ferry service from St. Thomas to Road Town...What company do you recommend? Looking for reliable, fast and honest service.
Thanks!

And in need of a hotel for one night...What's something that nice, with a pool, beach and with decent nightlife either on property or in walking distance of some fun nightlife? 🙂

Apart from the ;public ferry you have two options, Dohm's and Dolphin. Dohm's is the older established of the two and you can find both their rates online.

One night accommodations with beach and pool can be found at Best Western Emerald Beach, Best Western Carib Beach and Island Beachcomber - all of which are located on Lindbergh Bay on the airport road. The "walking to nightlife" isn't an option but you're only a short ($4 per person) taxi ride from Frenchtown where there's a cluster of restaurants within walking distance of each other and possibly some live music offered from time to time.

For an entertainment listing of what's available island-wide on the night you're here, the "Island Trader" free weekly newspaper comes out every Thursday and is available at supermarkets and convenience stores; while you can pick up a copy of "St Thomas This Week" at the airport when you arrive.

Or you can choose one of the many hotels on the east end of the island which is closer to Red Hook where both Dohm's and Dolphin Water Taxis are located.

Sugar Bay Resort, Sapphire Beach, Secret Harbor, Ritz Carlton are just a few of your options for places to stay and Red Hook has active nightlife with many bars and restaurants in walking distance of each other. You'll have to take a cab from any of these hotels into Red Hook but the distance is short.

Certainly can check but at the majority of East end locations it's hard to find a one-night rental, particularly in season.

Even at resort hotels? I would imagine it would be easier.

Yes, January is peak. Bolongo might be a good option if they can do a single night. Not a really impressive beach but nice enough for your purpose. It's an old-established privately family-owned resort. The units are basic although I believe they now have some higher-end condo units available. There's usually night time entertainment activity there and a couple of restaurants - so it may be just the ticket!

What about Tortola? I have used their services in the past and can recommend. Never had any problems and they were always very reliable. We're probably coming for another stay next August and gonna use them yet again.

Who/what is "Tortola" other than one of our neighboring islands?

There is not much night life on the island of St. Thomas. It is very quiet and mostly time shares and condos. The better nightlife might be found by Frenchman's Reef - a Marriott property closer to Charlotte Amalie, the main port. There is also some nightlife at the new Grand Yacht Haven facility near Charlotte Amalie
