Life in the Left Lane is a good book with personal account of moving to St. Croix, settling in, hurricanes, meeting people, what the author experienced. There are a couple other similar books for the VI like Desiring Paradise. Life in the Left Lane the author moved to St. Croix. Desiring Paradise author moved to St. John.

Living in De VI is a DVD, only DVD about moving to the VI so nothing to compare it to. It covers general information about the VI and then has aerial & on land tours of each of the four islands giving some information about them and it has interviews with people that moved to the USVI.

The Settlers Handbook is a guidebook about moving and living in the VI. It is the only handbook for moving to the VI. It is an informational book; finding apartments, infrastructure, transportation, what do do, who to call, telephone numbers, doctors, schools, critters, weather, recreation and so forth.

You can go to www.vitraders.com and click on Relocation in the navigation and read/see these four resources mentioned and a couple other books.

Also check out the online guide for relocation at www.vimovingcenter.com.

Coolda'la,

I'm from northern NJ and considering moving to STX too. I've been there four times and absolutely love the island. Have you started the job search? Presuming you want to or have to work. I ordered "Life in the left lane" and "Desiring Paradise" last night before running into this forum. I'm very excited about the possibility of moving to STX and somewhat scared that I will not be able to sustain my current standard of living. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Dan

coolda'la and wannaB: , "Islander" is the forum moderator for this website, remains anonymous so won't be answering any personal questions! That said, Islander advised, "Also check out the online guide for relocation at www.vimovingcenter.com." If you go to the top of this page you will see "Visit Relocation Message Board" which will take you to that relocation forum where you'll find a ton of information on moving to and living in the islands.

Before going through the forum itself, check out all the general information available and read some of the moving stories. The more research you do the better your chances of coming to a well-informed decision about whether moving here is for you or not. The newbie attrition rate is VERY high for many reasons and there is excellent advice right at your fingertips on the relocation site. Cheers!
