Our first day arriving is Sat. and on Sunday we want a nice Brunch but Miss Lucys is a bit out of the way our first day or should we just eat at the Westin? Does anyone know if the Beachside Cafe is good everyday or is the Sunday brunch especially good? Thanks!

I'd have to go with (and to) Miss Lucy's. Gourmet brunch on the beach with live jazz or resort food in a restaurant setting... yeah, definitely Miss Lucy's. And the drive is fun too.

If you go to Miss Lucys brunch, stick with the regular menu items. The "specials" were overpriced disappointments.

Being at Miss Lucy's is well worth the drive!

Oh definitely go to Miss Lucy's. The drive will give you a good introduction to the island. Miss Lucy's has a flavor and character that the Westin can never match. And bring your beach stuff and snorkel gear with you when you go. You'll be close to Salt Pond and Lameshur. Also be sure to get over to the East End before you head back.

People are willing to drive to Miss Lucy's from all over the island. I don't think anybody eats at the Westin if they're not staying there.

Not sure why you would eat at the Westin even if you ARE staying there 🙂

Eat in "town" and all over the island for a true taste of St John - come and experience all we have to offer, you won't be sorry 🙂

Thanks everyone so much!! I just had heard that the Westin is much improved since they have a new chef?

A question about going to the East End: In reading the book Feet, Fins and Four-Wheel drive the author had a jeep tour called Centerline Rd/Salt Pond Road/Lameshur Rd so we thought we would do Miss Lucys that day. But in order for us to go the the East End we would almost have to back track on Salt Pond Rd so we thought we should do the East End then on a different day. I would like to combine it all for one day, so which is the best route? Thanks!

The East End isn't so far from Coral Bay. If you go to Salt Pond/Lameshur, you will be going back on the same road that you took from Coral Bay. You could continue to the East End or save it for another day. We usually spend a day in the East End. We snorkel at Haulover in the morning then get to Vie's for lunch (we always take some food in case she's closed). Then we spend the after noon hanging out on her beach or snorkeling some of the spots in Hanson Bay. I love it over there. It's old Caribbean---a world away from Cruz Bay.

Here's a link to a map that may make this a little clearer to you:

I think that shot of Promo should sell you on Miss Lucy's. I can't imagine someone sitting at the Westin and looking that content.

Lex,

Thanks for the map! This may be a dumb question since I don't know the conditions of the roads but when you go Centerline to Coral Bay, then down to Salt Pond Rd. (stopping at Miss Lucy's along the way), and then you continue on to Lameshur Rd, couldn't you continue going around that way to Cruz Bay clockwise?(past Reef and Paret Bay beach) instead of back counterclockwise around the island? We have a 4 week drive if that makes a difference. I am asking because we would definitely go the East end if we have to go back anyway. Also, how long does it take time wise to get from the Westin to Coral bay? thanks so much for your help!

Sorry the road does not go all the way, you need to retrace your "steps".

It takes about 25 - 30 mins from the Westin to Coral Bay via Centerline Road, about 35 - 40 if you go North Shore.
