Gonna be in St. Thomas for a day with a cruise (yeah, I know the god-forsaken cruisers in port! Been there myself!). Just wanna get some first-hand knowledge on beaches. Looking to take the Godfrey tour with a 2-hour stop at ieither Magen's Bay, Sapphire or Coki Point. Any advice on which to go to? Leaning towrds Magen's but been getting responses that it may be overrated. Would like to do some snorkeling, but it's not essential. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello Shawn,

I don't think Magens is over rated. Its a beautiful beach, usually super calm and clear. Its about a mile long so you can take a nice walk with a cool drink, float along, lay out, read a book, relax. The over rated factor comes into play, I think, when there are several ships in port because then the beach gets crowded - which takes away from the atmosphere.

Sapphire is a 'resort beach'. Its in front of the Sapphire Beach Resort, so it does have a resort beach feel. Its also smaller then Magens Bay. There is a watersports booth that rents chairs, windsurfers, you can set up parasailing, jet skis etc. It has good snorkeling.

Coki has the best snorkeling of the three you mentioned. It is also the smallest; (its a small beach). Its 'touristy' which some people like, but I don't so its never been a fav of mine. Touristy equals folks offering you drinks, samples, food, chairs, hair braiding and other things.

You can get food/drinks at each of them. Magens has a beach bar/food/shop set up. Coki has several beach shacks and vendors. Sapphire is a restaurant/bar.

A couple hours at any of them would be a great time, because they are all nice beaches. The atmosphere at each is different.

Hope that helps.
