We spent half our honeymoon at the westin and half on a chartered yacht. it was fantastic.

As to what is the safest place, I would say that St. John is a far cry from St. Thomas and you will feel safe regardless where you stay. While it is obviously not crime free, it is a pretty small local community and everyone is pretty friendly.

I would say that unlike St. Thomas, safety is not a factor when choosing a place to stay in St. John.
