We are planning our wedding in St John in the fall of 2004. However not sure where to stay. There will be the two of there for 2 weeks and another 3 couples along with our 3 year old child coming for a week. We would like a smaller hotel/villa that would be fairly close to a beach if not right on the beach. We havent really decided on a budget however dont want to pay a ridiculous price, we do not need a fancy room. As long as it has a roof and a comfortable bed we are more than satisfied. Any suggestion?

Do you want to stay in St. John or St. Thomas? St. John has lots of villas few hotels.. St. Thomas has many of both.

We are going to be staying on St john. We were looking at Cinnamon campground - however decided that since it will be our honeymoon that we would like a step above a tent. One that caught my eye was Gallows Point Resort - are you familiar with this place? is it close to the beach - by close I mean no more than a 5 minute walk. Are their any other places you can recommend? Villas/guest houses etc. Anyone who has been already and has suggestions please do.

Hello Cassandra,

Gallows Point is nice. The beach that is closest is Little Cruz Bay however this is where the boats dock - it is a lovely little beach, and has a bar/restaurant right there but not the ideal spot to swim with the ferry and boat traffic. Every other beach is not walking distance less then 5 min. You would be very close to Cruz Bay and its amentities - shops, restaurants...

Westin is nice - its a resort, on a beach. Caneel is another - both are pricey. Thats about it in terms of resorts/hotels on St. John.

As for villas - others will need to suggest. Try this link though for options. https://www.vinow.com/stjohn/accommodations/villas.php there are several villas with web sites listed at that page.

i have heard a lot of good things about Gallows Point. They even have a website http://gallowspointresort.com/. Most of the people that have stayed there recommend staying in the units facing away from the dock.

As for beaches, St.John has a lot of beautiful beaches so do not limit yourselves.

Thank you very much - I will review some villas on that site and see what catches my eye - then see what other info you may have about it.

I looked in the Westin and Caneel a few weeks back - but very pricy and a lot that we do not need. Also read a lot of reviews and a lot of negative feedback considering the price you pay. We will be there for 2 weeks so even considering a guest house.

Anyone have suggestions of other places to stay - keeping in mind that we will have a 3 year old. Noticed that Gallows says 12 and older only - however I am awaiting a reply via email to see if this is still the case.

Thanks to everyone who assists in this big decision.
