Hi Everyone,
I've been doing some research on the topic of relocating to the Caribbean, the USVI specifically because of the cultural 'similarities', such as low povety/crime, spoken English, and 'some' of the amenities we enjoy stateside like common stores.
My question is, is there a complete guide that explains in detail the different personalities of the USVI? Like a breakdown of living, shopping, jobs, and the difference between areas on each island? There are a few websites i've found, but there's SO much information. Could anyone suggest a good 'guide' whether it be a book, ebook, magazine, or free online article.
Thank you very much!
😀 the best place is probably the vinow relocation board
look at the top of this message and you will see
Join conversations, ask USVI travel questions, share vacation tips and experiences! (Moving? Visit Relocation Message Board)
With a link
Best of luck
Remember after you move there you have to become a regular on this board for us tourist 😀
I'll venture to butt in as a resident here for over 25 years that as much as it may seem imperative to immediately jump onto the vinow relocation forum with a million and one questions with an expectation of getting immediate answers, take the time to read through the general information about COL and everything else. Then go on to the moving stories. This is a very transient population where newbies are concerned and the attrition rate is very high for many reasons - but several people have taken the time to tell their stories and their respective viewpoints should be read. Good luck!
Hello,
This site you posted on is a vacation planning site for the USVI. The sister site to it is one for Relocation and Living in the USVI. You can find it at http://www.vimovingcenter.com. There is information there on cost of living, shipping, pets and so on. There is a message board connected to that site like TomB mentioned and there are stories like STT Resident mentioned. The stories are under What to Expect in the navigation. So click over to that website; its a great place to start.
There is a book called the Settlers Handbook; its a guide to living in the USVI with information on lots of different topics. Its a good book and current, the15th Edition was just released in November 2008. You can also read books written by people that moved like Life in the Left Lane. You can find those books and others at VItraders.com - Relocation Books.
There is a DVD called Living in De VI which is available on that same site as the books; you can watch a clip and read about it at http://www.livingindevi.com/.
