HI Everyone!
Will someone please help me with this question? I will be in St. Thomas for just ONE day, and am wondering WHERE I can go to get some GREAT snorkeling in, and where do I rent the snorkeling equipment? Will I be able to just hop on a bus or taxi and get to a nice beach with very good snorkeling right off shore? I am a woman traveling alone...do you think this is a good idea? Will my belongings be safe while I am in the water, or are there lockers to store one's valuables on different beaches?

I am also interested in finding out about taking a snorkel day or half day trip if anyone can give me a name/e-mail of a known and really great tour operator!?! 🙂

I'm very open to hearing about other ideas of how to best spend a day in St. Thomas and/or the surrounding Islands from those of you seasoned travelers to the USVI!
I only have from 8AM to about 5:30 PM for that one day to explore...I am not that into shopping, and as you probably have gathered by now... I love to snorkel and everything about the out of doors!

One more question!?! I am wondering if it is feasable to make my way to a ferry to go to St. John's for the day to snorkel??? Will I have to depend on taxi drivers once there to bring me to a good snorkeling site? I would like to avoid the crowded locations that most cruise excursions go....(ie, Trunk Bay?)

Thank You all....so very much for helping me decide what to do during my one precious day in the USVI!!! I really appreciate it!

I recommend the BOB Underwater Adventure. It's a half day trip,m all gear provided, and they pick everuone up right at the Havensight cruiseship dock. They go out 2X per day. Check it out at www.bobusvi.com They also provide snorkel equipment and floaties for when you aren't going down on BOB (gee, that sounds kinds dirty, doesn't it? Haha!).

going down on BOB sounded so bad that I felt compelled to explain what BOB is since it is not a person: see below

BOB, the Breathing Observation Bubble, is a unique way to see and enjoy the marvels of the underwater world.
