Food is a favorite topic here so just search under seafood or STJ restaurants and you'll find lots of opinions about places, mostly on the somewhat high-end. Depending on where you're from you may or may not be thrilled with the choices. Us New Englanders are spoiled with our seafood- just don't go looking for your home town choices if you want fresh seafood.

The Fish Trap is hit or miss. I have had some of the absolute BEST seafood there (April 2005) then went back in November for the same meal and it was blah. When it's good though, it's fantastic.

Lime Inn has a shrimp fest (can't remember what night, Wednesdays maybe?) no website

Morgan's Mango always has fresh seafood and Caribbean fare. The lobster cake appetizer is terrific. As far as entrees they always have a great surf and turf selection that changes daily. The coconut shrimp is super. If tuna is the catch of the day, that's very good too.

For a less expensive, more laid back experience, head over to Shipwreck Landing in Coral Bay. Great conch fritters. (their website is currently down)

The Seafood Brochette at Morgan's Mango is one of the best meals I've ever eaten.

You can find their menu here: http://digitaldudes.com/menuentrees.htm

Melissa,

We ate at Equator at Caneel Bay in April. We had a table on the rail and watched a beautiful sunset. We did not order seafood so I can't help you there. I had a veggie pasta dish and hubby had chicken with pineapple; both were very good. The dessert Banana Cheese Cake was the best. It was not an ordinary cheesecake. It was served with vanilla ice cream flavored with Cruzan Rum and a warm caramel sauce over the entire thing. It is a good idea to make reservations about a week in advance if you would like to sit on the rail. If you are not staying there call and ask for the restaurant directly. 340-776-6111

Have a nice trip.

We have been going to St. John for about 10 years now and we really enjoy most of the restaurants mentioned ... but this past March, we had our favorite dinner of all time at Rhumb Lines in Cruz Bay. The food was out of this world (all four of us were very impressed - and we each had something different). They had great entertainment, too - a female singer/acoustic guitarist named T-Bird. She told us that she is there once or twice a week (I don't remember which night we were there, but I think it was a Saturday or Sunday night). Make sure you call for reservations, as they do get booked up - and if you're interested in seeing/hearing T-Bird, ask which nights she is there. (She also performs at the Beach Bar, SKinny's and other places on the island).

we were in St. John for three nights in early February - we are foodies and ate twice at Tage - before ted robinson left and once at Rhumb lines - Rhumb lines was wonderful. Don't know about Tage these days or Ten Tables with new chefs in charge. would love to get some feedback before our next trip.

Restauraunt reviewers call it "Pacific Rim and tropical cuisines in a funky garden setting." And the prices aren't bad at all!

Have to agree with you. Rhumb Lines is truly terrific! And the best kept secret in STJ dining. We've gone there 4 times over the last two trips down and the plan is to be there Sat nite!! Can't wait. Just two more wake-ups to go!!!

My husband and I loved High Tide on Cruz Bay. I'm a vegetarian, so I can't attest to the sea food there (though the veggie wrap they had with pasta on the side was THE BEST I've ever had!!) but my husband ordered the mahi and said it was wonderful.

I agree with Stone Terrace. Right in town, friendly staff. They have local fresh fish dishes. Rhumblines has got a nice atmosphere. Try La Tapa too. Good Sangria and appetizer selection. Beware of prices. For your money those are the best bets. Lime Inn is great for more casual.
