I just registered today, and it feels like coming home. I have been reading these boards well over a year, know many of you by name and I had the pleasure to meet some of you in person when renting a room in their home some time ago. First time I came on your beautiful island with a cruise ship (first time cruiser that time) I fell in love with it. I visited many other Caribbean islands but St.Thomas is still my favourite, and I am happy to be comming again on Monday,February 1.It will be our first stop, and I was wondering if somebody could suggest where to go to buy a snorkel and a mask. I am not using fins.I got a cheapy stuff at Walmart but the snorkel is open on the top, doesn't have this "something" to prevent water coming in.I plan to walk through Charlotte Amalie in the morning, visit my favourite places, alleys, boutiques, have a nice espresso and just soak up the atmosphere. In the afternoon I would probably go to a beach-depends on my travel companion planes. You advise would be greatly appreciated...and I am leaving home Saturday:-).
You could try and buy a quality mask or snorkel at a sporting goods store before you leave -- otherwise visit a dive store here in STT - Crown Bay has one, and Red hook and maybe other posters will come up with others -- The Kmart here has masks at $30-40 but they are encased in hard plastic so you can't see if they fit right.
If your ship is docking in Havensight, there's a dive shop there - Water World. They can surely help you. Hope this response isn't too late!
