Hey all, im going to STJ on the 20th of June for a month, can't wait so so excited!! It is myself and my best friend heading over and staying in a house which a friend owns somewhere on the island. My friend has been there once before but I haven't and I just can't wait. Bit worried about the weather though, it always seems to say its cloudy but humid?? I love the sun and lazing on the beach so worried that it will just be cloudy and sticky?? We are from Ireland so don't get much sunshine and certainly don't get humid temperatures so it could be a shock to the system and I can't come back form the Caribbean without a fantastic tan!!! Don't mind the bit of rain as very use to that and i've heard it stops as quickly as t starts, not like hear where its down for days!! Just wanted to know what the weather is like there today,im sitting at my desk in work dreaming of the beaches and bars ill be sittijg at nearly this time next week!!!

You have to ignore the weather reports. I've been going for years and the weather is always great - the sun ALWAYS shines during the day. In the last 10 or so visits - each being at least 10 days long, I can think of one day where it rained all day.

There are often passing clouds. You might be sitting on the beach and it'll suddenly feel shady. Look up and you'll see a big, fat cloud that has passed in front of the sun. I just say "move along cloud" (lol) and within 10 minutes, it's gone. I think that is the kind of cloud the weather people are forecasting.

Tradewinds keep the clouds moving. They don't linger in one place like they do here in the states. You can literally stand on your balcony in the VI and watch the rain pass by. One cloud with rain coming out of it will just glide by you and keep going. It's strange to see, at first...but you'll get used to it.

In my experience, there's normally a soaking shower in the wee hours of the morning (4:30-5am). If you wake up and things look cloudy and damp, have no fear. By the time you're up and ready to head out, the sun will be shining gloriously.

Just ignore the weather reports....they mean nothing. The sun will shine and you will go home with a tan like you've never had before. Just be careful of how strong the sun is and apply sunblock.

Enjoy!! You're so close to going!! Start adjusting yoru mind to "island time" now.

Hot, hot, and hotter? Perfect timing for us, as usual. We're leaving for St. Thomas this weekend!

This seems to be a trend with us. Last summer (mid-June) we went to Europe. Up until the week before we left, everyone in Italy was saying how wonderful the weather was. When we got there it turned HOT HOT HOT. And all our touring was on foot in the hot sun for hours at a time.

Oh, well, a hot day in the Virgin Islands is better than a day at home / work!!

socal...

i agree, a hot day ANYWHERE is better than a day at work....any day (rain, shine or otherwise) in st. john is better than any day anywhere!!

thanks for the webcam link pia....now i have something else other than a)these boards and b) google images of st. john
to stare at in work while rocking back and forth mumbling '8 more days,8more days,8more days.....'

🙂

Thanks Pia for the webcam link, I had heard there was one but wasn't sure how to find it! This will keep me going now for the next 8 days, ah only 8 days! hot hot hot is my kind of weather, yet having said that i've probably never experienced heat like I will over there so i'll have to wait and see if I like it so much then!!

yeah, heat in the VI in summer is really, really HOT...and humid! Imagine your skin being damp to the touch.

I've found that June is normally ok...but July starts to heat up quickly. Seems that the extra hot days may have arrived early this year. Beaches!!

Wow,I just saw above the webcam that its 30c degrees and its only 9.30! I don't think im going to know whats hit me when I arrive in that heat and humidity but I can't wait still. Carla maybe the running in ski suits ain't a bad idea alright except I don't want to collapse a week before I go to st.john for a month! So I take it Blu,that any kind of physical sport like tennis or football would be kind of not a good idea during the day??
