Is a jeep soft top best to rent if you want to explore the rain forest and have the top down??
yes.......get a jeep the roads here are real bad and they take a pot hole better than a car.....you can not lock a soft top or leave anything in it....
Yeah, I would not take a sedan on the "scenic roads."
I would also bring two maps and a bag of bread crumbs. You will get lost and that's half the fun.
Got a flat in our rental car driving on one of the nice roads over by Divi, --on a stretch with no cell service, of course.
There's a plant with long thorns that they apparently have to cut back along some of the roads, and debris sometimes gets left along the roadside. The fella who's door we knocked on was very helpful, and we had a few friendly passersby who checked on us.
Word to the wise: find out where the JACK is BEFORE you drive away from the rental place.
Our Toyota had it located under the front seat, not by the tire, and no manual in the glovebox.
Who puts a jack under the front seat? Honestly!
Part of the adventure.
Careful with the car rental company. We found in December with Thrifty that they did "not" have enough cars/suv's for the reservations that were made.
Many people were left without vehicles
