My husband and I are wanting to become live aboards with our children and have been looking at the auctions for a boat.
We have been at sea many a times and I come from a seafaring father, but have never owned or (extensively)operated a boat larger than a speed boat.
The auctions we are searching are selling a lot of the boats damaged from Katrina and Wilma.
My husband is a builder and interior work along with some exterior damage is not a problem. We just aren't sure about the mechanical aspects and what to look for.
I know this is structural, but what kind of damage to the hull would be considered irrepairable?
Can anyone offer any suggestions or advice?
Thanks,
Ocean
anyone??????
Perhaps you'd have better luck if you post your query on a live aboard bboard. This is a vacation bboard so few people here will likely have boat rebuilding experience. Alternatively, a boat repair place might be able to steer you in the right direction -- you can check the VI yellow pages here: http://www.viphonebook.com/Main.asp Good Luck!
I have some experiance with boats buying and selling..........family buisness.you can e-mail me direct at [email protected] .I could give you a few ideas of things you would look to avoid.all realy depends on the hull....design..age .....engine ...sail?..power?.....mono-hull, cat ,tri ect.....lots and lots of variables
