My boyfriend and I are going to St thomas next month. We are definately planning on Scuba Diving but we want to know some must do's while we are there. Also if there is a particular scuba co. that is recommended. There seems to be many options but we do not have the time or money to do everything. So we would love some feedback.

Thanks!

For scuba diving- Chris Sawyer Dive Center www.sawyerdive.vi. Chris has been in business a long time, has many loyal and long time employees, a perfect safety record and always find the best site for the conditions. Make sure to schedule the Rhone dive on Friday!! What other kind of stuff do you want to do??

Joanne, suggestions we can make would depend on things you and your boyfriend like.... so please give us some feedback on that; ie. like the beach, want to eat out at night, want to go to a fun bar or we dont drink no bar scenes please, don't like to shop.... give us some feedback and then we can suggest specific things to do that you might enjoy.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. We like to do many things. Definately water activities such a scuba diving, snorkling etc. We like to drink and go to fun bars. Let's see what else. My boyfrined was exploring the idea of a helicopter ride. We also are there only 5 days so we are a bit limited. Thanks any information will be appreciated.

That help Joanne.... Ok lets see.

Beach hop: Try Magens Bay for laying out maybe half day, read a book, have some drinks under a palm tree, walk the beach hand in hand (corny I know - LOL but your in the islands). Coki Beach a couple hours to snorkel. If you are on island on a Sunday try Sapphire Beach in the afternoon they have a live band at their beach bar, you can dance, swim and drink. Sapphire is nice also if you want to jet ski, parasail, kayak... Renaissance also for parasailing. Secret Harbor for relaxing, having a couple drinks on the beach.

St. John day trip: Spend one day of your 5 in St. John. If you rent a car which I would recommend take the car over on the car barge. Drive around the island, see Trunk Bay, Maho Bay .... overlooks from the road - take pictures. Drive out to Annaberg Plantation or if you dont want to go that far (not far really, very small island) however if not then maybe stop at Cinnamon Bay and walk around the plantation ruins there. Choose a beach or two, Hawksnest, Caneel, Trunk and Cinnamon are great and all easy to access. If you dont have a car rental and want to not spend too much on taxis, less expensive day trip to St. John, take the people ferry and then walk to the National Park Visitor Center and get a trail map, walk the trail right behind the Center to Solomon and Honeymoon Beach... great hike, quiet, relaxing and beautiful beaches only accesable by trail so usually quiet, take a packed lunch with you - great day.

Shop - if not a big shopper and want souvenirs then maybe on one beach day, do the beach in the am and shop in the pm or vice versa. Try to pick a day with less ships. The ship schedule is posted on this web site every month.

Helicopter ride - Air Center Helicopter Ride or Seaplane Tours are two options.

Scuba Diving try Chris Sawyer which was mentioned above.

If you rent a car then drive around St. Thomas, stop at Blackbeards Castle, Drakes Seat, Mountain Top, if you want to see historical buildings from Danish Colony times then in Charlotte Amalie visit Fort Christian, 99 steps, Luthern Church not far from Fort and other buildinds in that vacinity. If you dont rent a car do an island tour with a taxi - usually about $20 for 1 1/2 hours for one or two persons - I believe, tip not included. Extra people are about $12 more.

Do a dive on one day/ if you are a certified diver you might do a night dive and/or wreck dive.

Nighttime: Definitely try eating out at a couple of the great restaurants here. Search this board for restaurants several post about peoples favorites.

Fun Bars - try Greenhouse Two for Tuesdays. Duffys on a Friday or Saturday night is lots of fun - lots of fun drinks, Happy hour at Paradise Point Tramway, quiet nice setting for drinks is Epernay in Frenchtown, good deserts and beautiful view and romantic try Room with a View at Bluebeards Castle.

If you want to do a lot of things - rent a car... taxis will add up quickly - they charge per person and per destination, not metered.

Hope this helps 🙂

To help you plan you should get brochures, booklets and stuff mailed to you; try going to http://www.vitraders.com and select Vacation Kit from the top Navigation.

Thanks a million for all of that info. Sounds great. I have another question about scuba diving at the Rhone. Do you need a passport to dive there. I had thought that you only need your birth certificate and id but my boyfriend heard that you need a passport. If you know anything about this I would appreciate it.

Thanks again!
