We have to turn our car in by 10:30am the day we leave STJ but our flight doesn't leave till 4pm. I was wondering what to do with the time. My first thought was to hang out in Cruz Bay and/or RH. The day we come down we will be visiting Magens Bay and Coral World. We are not big on shopping and have 10 and 8 year old kids. Any suggestions on what we might want to do on STT?

You could take a taxi on STT to Mountaintop. It's an awesome view. The ride up is fun and you can easily spend an hour there. Have fun!

Thanks for the info but I didn't hear good things about Mountaintop. Has anyone ever visited GreatHouse Botanical Gardens?

Hello Janet,

How about a 2-hour island tour that included Drakes Seat, Mountain Top etc., pass on Botanical Gardens (its a really nice house with fine landscaping - a great place for a wedding reception or large party but not much to see for a visit - in my opinion). If you are interested in history perhaps a walking tour of Blackbeards and the various historic homes affliated with Blackbeards.

Keep your rental car...

How much more will it cost you?

compare to taxi costs etc...

Don't stress on the small stuff...

I had a similar situation when I flew home in August. I went to Charlotte Amalie. Shopping, history, dining, and just great views - it can't be beat.

I thought that Blackbeard's Castle was a place to stay. Can anyone tell me more about it?

Hello Janet,

There is Blackbeards Castle and Bluebeards Castle. Blackbeards used to have an inn there by the same name but its run strictly as an attraction now with tours of the watch tower, a little pirate stories (if you take a guided tour) and visits to a few historical houses. There is still an inn next to Blackbeards that is run by another owner and I believe Blackbeards still has guestrooms at their sister property Hotel 1829.

Bluebeards also is the site of an old Danish watch tower and it is home to the Bluebeards Hotel.

You can find more information on visiting Blackbeards on their website at http://blackbeardscastle.com/.

Turn in the car early and do the BOB Underwater Adventure at 8:30. The kids will enjoy it...and so will Mom and Dad! It's a half day trip, so they'd have you back on the cruise ship dock in Havensight by noon. Or you could turn in the car early, then go to Paradise Point, hang out, the kids will enjoy The Pirate's Chest, and then do the BOB thing at noon and they'll have ya back by 4:30. Those things are a hoot! Check it out at www.bobusvi.com.

Hi Janet,

You may need to be at the airport two hours before your flight. We were leaving the day before Easter but it took about 20 minutes in line to check in with the airline and 40 minutes for the customs line. There was an accident on the way to the airport and we didn't have time to stop for our lunch. If you like to play it safe I wouldn't plan anything that goes past 2pm.
I think it looks like you are leaving your rental car in Cruz Bay at 10:30am. The next ferry to St. Thomas would leave at 11:00am so that gets you to Red Hook by 11:30 (giving time to retieve your bags.) If you don't want to be hauling those all over I would suggest making arrangements with a taxi driver or tour/taxi to pick you up at the ferry dock and take you some place that you can tour and also grab a hearty lunch. Remember they don't feed you on airplanes anymore. See if the taxi cab driver will hold on to your bags or if Paradise Point or the location of the BOB will do that. Whatever taxi you use I would probably work out with them to pick you up to take you to the airport.
Paradise Point tram has a free bird show at 1:30pm (not exactly free the ticket to get up there is $18 for adults and $9.00 for kids), and they also serve food. There is also a helicopter tour. There are shops there too. I can't figure out their wierd hours so you would probably want to call them for their schedule that day. Here is a link for them:

Have a great trip.
