In about 2 weeks I'm going to St. John. I've been there before and want to do something different. I've been to about every beach, gone parasailing and a lot more. What should I do now?

There is so much that you can do.

Take a daysail
Rent a dinghy
Horseback riding in Coral Bay
Hike the Reef Bay trail
Check out the Annaberg Sugar Mill

Stop by the National Park building for some great ideas. Of course, my favorite thing to do is Relax.

One thing I always recommend people 'do' is experience 'island time'.

Go limin

Listen to the wind
Hear the water
See the colors around you

Do nothing...and everything

--Find Battery Gut and see if the waterfall is flowing

--Hike the Johnny Horn trail from Waterlemon over to Coral Bay. Take the cutoff down to Brown Bay.

---Eat and drink at places you haven't been to, especially local places. Sogo's or Sosa's in Cruz Bay for dinner. Hercules or Patrick's for lunch. Mooie's for a drink. In Coral Bay, stop in the Sputnik Bar and have lunch at one of the truck/stand operations at the triangle.

---If you haven't been to Vie's beach, spend part of a day there. Have lunch at Vie's if she's open. Hang around until she's not busy and ask her about growing up in the East End.

And I agree with spending a good chuink of time doing very little: sit, float, watch, smell, listen, nap. Do less and take longer to do it.

- If it rains hike the reef bay trail to the petroglyphs and then hike up to the 2nd waterfall past the first one
- Take a day trip to the BVI
- Try a discover scuba or do your basic scuba work at home in a pool then do your check-out dives here in the caribbean
- Go for a sunset sail
- Eat at Uncle Joe's bbq. . . . .three times

I second the daysail. You could a powerboat, sailboat or catamaran. Private or not. Have you done the BVI's? Baths, Caves, Indians, White Bay, Foxy's, Soggy Dollar, etc. Way fun. Love it there!

Yup, I second everything that's already been said.

I highly reccomend hitting Vie's for the beach and the lunch. She has chaise lounges on the beach for you tucked in to little coves between the sea grapes. The snorkeling is awesome over to the right- lots of coral and fish. Go far out to where the rocks jut out of the water but be careful of the current. The snorkeling to the left is cool too just on a smaller scale- lots of the silver sides creating low visibilty, like your lost in a cloud of fish.

Vie's is the only place I've ever seen a turtle.

And, I know it's been said a billion times, but, Vies garlic chicken is awesome! I really liked the jonny cakes with honey too. The conch fritters were ok but not great.

Xislandgirl,
I just got back from STJ and really wanted to do the dinghy rental but never got around to it. For my next trip, where can I rent one & any idea of the average cost and amount of time they give you? Are there restrictions to where one can go?
Thanks, I am keeping notes for my next STJ trip & this board is great!

My husband and I did the dingy rental in December through Noah's Little Arks dingy rentals located near the beach bar in Cruz Bay. We did the full day rental and the price was around $125.00+/-. You can also choose to do a half day rental for around $75.00. There are 2 dingy sizes available (12' & 14') and the larger dingy is slightly more expensive. They will have you watch a video and provide you with a map and some boating instructions. We had an awesome time and would definitely recommend and do it again. We hit some snorkeling spots, packed a lunch, hung out on the dingy, went ashore at Cinnamon and some of the other beaches and just had a great time exploring around on the water.

Alice,
I should have went with my instincts. I was sure that was the way to see the most. Did you get to Waterlemon Cay?
Thanks for the info.

Cocosmom, we did get to Waterlemon Cay. We had to go through this incredibly choppy channel and were slammed by wave after wave, but it was well worth it. We snorkeled in Leinster Bay and saw tons of starfish, a huge tarpin and the biggest turtle we've ever seen. Looking forward to doing it again in the future.

Alice,
We walked to that beach there but it was high tide & no comfortable place to leave stuff to swim to Cay. Will do this for sure next time. One more question, how hard is it to get into the raft from snorkeling? Read some posts here about how hard it is.
