Two first timers to STT! Our rental offers wifi, along with an incredible north shore view of Hull Bay. We drove up "Suicide Hill" to get here, and by the end of the week I'm sure we'll be used to it. Our wonderful landlord George met us at the airport and escorted us here and when we arrived he announced that he upgraded us from an apartment to a cottage, as we are here to celebrate our anniversary! There are fresh flowers in every room and homemade mango bread. Found our way downhill to North Drop for dinner - flying fish and crab sandwiches - and found our way back up, too. I even found a copy of "Don't Stop the Carnival" to read this week. Life is gooooood!

Nice! Looks like you are in a good quiet spot. See if George can point you towards Dorotea beach (rocky) or even Njelteberg (hard to find).

Now why are you on the net while on vacation? Internet junkie! Lol!

It's wonderfully quiet here... you can hear roosters and birds and insects and the occasional bleat of a wild goat up the hill - even the ocean on the rocks far below.

Patrick - do tell a bit more about those beaches. As far as being an internet junkie, well, partly.;)

Church of one,
So glad you are enjoying your little pc. of paradise, you are just a stone throw away from me. North Drop is excellent! Dorothea is not for swimming, but good for a stroll. To get there, go down suicide hill, take first left, go to the end, turn left, this will bring you down to a little bridge. Go across the bridge and at the end of that little road, take a right. Go all the way down the hill and park outside the gate and then walk in to the beach. You will see some condo's down there. If you see a girl out for a walk in the a.m., with a small pony tail and a cell phone in her hand, that is me! 🙂
Neltaburg is very nice, but you need 4wd to assure you get out or don't take out your oil pan! Go passed Dino's Restaruant on RT. 33, pass dumpters on your left, see first house on right, turn in just past the house and before the canopy with a Blue Fema tarp! Very secluded so make sure you are comfortable with this! There are some old ruins down there as well! Do not drive on the beach, you will see a place to park.
Have Fun!

Yesterday we braved the roads and headed to Kmart to stock up on a few more provisions and a few things I forgot to bring. Since it was a 5 ships-in-port day, I want to do the least amount of driving possible and we managed to get there and back with only a few missed turns, but a whole lot of traffic. I did buy some Dramamine as I found the roads really make me feel kind of queasy - especially as I'm the nagivator (yes, I said nagivator!) to Mr. Church's driver. We got back just after lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing and reading at the small pool and enjoying the fabulous breezes. We went down the hill and had dinner and a few beers at Hull Bay Hideaway. Mr. Church is having terrible withdrawals as we don't seem to be getting any of the hockey playoffs on the Outdoor channel (Go WIngs!) Thankfully, most of the bronchitis I arrived with has disappeared and we can spend the rest of the time exploring. With today's cloudy weather (and no ships in port), I think it will be a good day to do some shopping and exploring in town. Maybe check out the Carnival performances this evening.... live music is da best!

church, hope you're feeling better! nothing worse then going away and you're sick, but sounds like you're starting to do better.

love hearing real time reports, unfortunately when i go away there is no internet service at our villa and with 8 other people i don't know how many times i would have the chance to use a computer anyway.

have a great time and keep the reports coming!

Ahhhhh......rekindling my fond memories of Hull Bay Hideaway, NORTH DROP!!!, Neltjberg (yes, 4WD is as important as your patience in reachinig this glorious stretch of secluded beach).

So glad to read that you are enjoying your time on the North Side. Love it there!!!

Friday we took advantage of the fact that there were no ships in port to do some exploring. Finally got to stop at the Magens Bay overlook - and no one else was there! Found our way into Charlotte Amalie and snagged a parking space in the lot in front of the Holiday Inn, but it was marked "One Hour Parking". Are parking regs strictly enforced? I would've liked to have spent more time browsing the shops, but did not want to end up with a ticket as our souvenir. Found something Mr. Church has long wanted - a small blue diamond stud at a very reasonable price. Would like to go back and look for a nice small piece of artwork to bring home - any suggestions on where to go? Went to Blue Moon Cafe for lunch, after some difficulty finding the place and stopped at Kilnworks on our way back, but didn't see anything that really "wowed" us there. I thought the food at Blue Moon was just okay and not worth the aggravation of finding the place. Came back to the cottage to relax before heading back to North Drop for dinner. We orderd the Flying Fish Barbados with a corn/black bean salsa and our two sides of fries and mixed veggies. The portions are so large that we are able to share one entree between the two of us and both walk away stuffed!

I really am delighted that we chose the North Side for our first visit. We're not big drinking/partying type of folks and really just want to kick back and spend quality time relaxing and our location gives us just that. I wish we had the 4WD to get to Njelteberg, but alas, we have a little Focus and won't risk it. We can see it from here and it does look lovely.................

Church as one.
Good to hear your feeling better. Dramamine & driving?? WoW..I sleep for 8 hours straight if I take one of those things. Next trip, invest in motion sickness wrist bands you can buy at drug stores They work wonders..I have used them in cars, boats & planes for 23 years! I hope you do better in navigating than I did in STT! Have fun.
