june 7-14 my family will be staying at the westin hillside # 31 has anyone stayed there? we will have 2-11 year olds and 1 18-month old boy. do you have any suggestions on things we can do or places we should see?
Hi B,
My wife and I stay at builing 32, which is next door to 31. It is recommended you use the golf carts to get back and forth from the pool and lobby up to the hillside villa. There are always plenty of activities at the resort and just pick up the schedule in the lobby at the concierge desk. They will also help you with ANY questions or make reservations for dinner.
You should have a nice kitchen, so you can cook many of your meals in the villa. And there is a small pool between villas 31 and 32 with two nice gas grills, and places to eat or lounge.
You will want to reserve a vehicle if you have not already since taxi fares will add up. Plus for hopping from beach to beach, traveling to Coral Bay, and just having flexibility to go from the villa.
Make sure to check out the hermit crab races on Sunday at 1pm. You can win some great prizes.
If you would like more info or have any questions or want to see pictures of our villa, send me an email and I will do my best to help.
Regards,
Tim
We've stayed at the condo's up on the hill, don't remember what unit. I agree with Tim about the golf carts for transport. It's easy to hitch a ride from the pool up to your room, but you may need to call the front desk to get a ride down from your unit.
They usually have daily activities at noon for the kid's down by the beach. Our personal favorite are the crab races. They give out freebies to the winners like 2 for 1 day sails and free pizza to name a few. They also show dive-in movies down at the pool in the evenings. The 11 year olds will love the beach and water activities at the Westin. They have giant trampolines anchored in the bay and a huge inflatable "glacier" for them to climb.
Offsite you can rent little dingy's that you can rent for the day and head out on the water. Of course all of the beaches on STJ are fabulous. Our kid's like to body board in the late afternoon at Trunk Bay when the tide rolls in. Great snorkeling there too.
If you are looking for a daytrip over to STT I would take the kid's over to Coral World with some swimming and snorkeling at Coki Beach. The Wyndham has bumper boats and a mini golf course. They also have buffet dinners nightly down by the pool, always a plus when traveling with children.
Hope this helps,
Molly
We are in Building 34.
If you haven't done so - google "TUG Timeshare Starwood Forum" and go to the Westin St John thread on the Starwood forum.
As an alternative - this link will take you directly there

Lots of WSJ owners (and other Starwood owners) - it is free, but like VINOW you will need to sign-up to post (keeps away the spammers)
thank-you all , we will certainly try the hermit crab races. sounds like alot of fun. i have been reading alot on this board for the last 2 weeks and i have gotten alot of good information. i'm glad its here. everyone is very helpful.
thank you so much for everyones help. our trip to st john island was GREAT. I hated to leave. the island is beautiful, we had a great time. i did alot of research before i left so i had an ideal of some of the cost of things. the westin is really nice. We rented a van from st thomas. budget car rentals. i would not advise you to rent from them. we was suppost to get a suv and when we got there they said they didn't have any more. we called them twice before we got there and they said everything was ready. they didn't give us a discount for not having what we needed. the van was wrecked and it had a bad front tire. we asked them if anything happens while on st john will they fix it, they told us no we would be responsible for everything. Trunk Bay was nice. if anyone has any questions just email me and put st john in the subject line [email protected]
