Hi There,
We are staying on St John at the Westin this year instead of on St Thomas, 3rd week August. I wondered if anybody stayed in those beach front rooms, and if they are noisy being on the beach. Also, I wondered if there is something we shouldn't miss doing on St John, the one weekend we will be there. More importantly, is any reggae band playing on St John at any bars, or at the Westin, maybe on a Saturday night, or happy hour by the pool, or is there a Carnival night like some resorts have on St Thomas. Anything with a west indian vibe is what I'm interested in. Any where can I get a good roti, and local food w/ johnny cakes.
Thanks so much
LB
This is a good site for live music: http://www.seestjohn.com/arts_music.html
I stay at the Westin, but never at the beachfront so I don't know about the noise. There are tons of things to do. It's a shame you only have a weekend! You should parasail and go snorkeling at Trunk Bay, there is also something called 'Snuba" which is like scuba-diving only with snorkel gear. The Reef Bay hike is really fun - get the info from the visitors center. The shopping in Mongoose is great too. A sunset sail would be a great day end, its only about 2-3 hours and they give you food usually. My husband and I love to go on kayaking trips - they have full and half day adventures.
vinow.com is an excellent resource too. I have found so much information on this site it's crazy! Have fun!!
Thanks for the link, I looked at this week in St Thomas St John, but the info seems out of date, even listing live music at Mountain Top. We are actually staying 8 days, but only one weekend, I suppose that I wasn't too clear. We've been coming to the islands for more than 20 years, we stay on St Thomas and visit St John during our stay-- this year for the 1st time we are staying on St John- at the Westin. We certainly will do all the beaches. When we come to the islands we love hearing steel pans and reggae and eating west indian/drinking local-libations. We feel we get enough oldies, jazz, and americanized food/ booze and wine lists at home the rest of the time,
We are hoping the Westin has a carnival night with mocko jumbies.
thanks again.
