So were do the locals hang out and enjoy an afternoon cold one on STT and STJ? As far as who is local and who is not, I guess I would say boaties and who live on the islands are locals. Were is the best happy hour?
Yes I like my beer so long as it is cold and wet.

OK, I agree. You can look on a map to find out where Hull Bay is!!! Cheers!

honestly, the locals hang out anywhere you find cheap beer and good happy hour specials. On STJ that means Woody's between 3-6pm. We locals hang out at many other places too of course but that is a good general rule.

The word "local" can have a lot of different meanings. Sometimes it means anyone who's not a tourist. Other times it refers to the West Indian population. And sometimes it means someone either born on the island or having deep roots there. You'll get a different kind of "local" experience at Mooie's or the Sputnik than you will at Woody's or Skinny's.

Locals "hang out" at places which offer good value for money and that doesn't necessarily translate to cheap beer and good happy hour specials. Sorry, lionindasun, I'm probably picking semantically but it's been a long week!

As an almost 25 year St Thomas resident, I think I might be some sort of a local, I enjoy eating out at places where I'm treated with basic pleasantries and am presented with good food, properly cooked and presented - at a reasonable price. I know all about rents and the cost of doing business here (generally most scary) because I've been in the business for close to 13 years now, but if I'm paying big bucks for an entree which is not only a miniscule portion but badly cooked, I might get a bit miffed. That has happened...but I don't diss the server where any tip is concerned, just later get word back to the owner in a friendly fashion.

The "local" places are very diverse and are at different places on the island. They don't advertise in the mainstream and spend big bucks promoting their business because (a) they can't afford it and (b) their reputation slowly (like that proverbial old stone) gathers that business moss and they keep their head above water which is all they strive to do anyway.

And that's it for me and my opinion. Cheers!

And, gee, I keep thinking this is another one of those "nude beach" threads every time I read the title of it. 😮

Any were you live your a local and you know the area were you know the regulars.
It's a more a friendly environment with a few name calling of course joking around.
No plastic people, just fun stories and cold beer and if your really lucky they didn't burn the burger.
It's just to bad I'm the tourist in this story trying to find a place were you can be yourself, have a few beers, shoot some pool or darts.

Exit Zero---
I had heard that Sib's had closed (which made me very sad!). Are you saying that it is, in fact, still open (I hope!) ??
We will be returning on May 14 for 2 weeks and would love to visit Sib's once more---

Dana - Sib's bar was never closed - the dining room and garden have been closed for over a year, but they have a new dining deck outside and a VLT room inside , still have multiple TV's, pool and darts and it is as local a place as always.

Before I quit drinking 3 years ago, The Offshore Bar in Port of Sale (Havensite) mall was my home...and I always went to Wednesday nite at Paradise Point...then again, I'm a white transplant from Michigan, so how 'local' am I? And I used to hang out at a tiny little place on Turpentine Road (2 stools, 4 chairs and a table for dominoes) that was about as 'local' as it could get...lotsa fun! Look for the smallest, dingiest looking place outside...it's probably a local hotspot on the inside! I mean, look at El Cubano! Haha! O.K. I'm definitely not a local, but just got back from St. Thomas Saturday and hung out at the most exclusive to the ones that don't advertise. Both were great, but I definitely prefer the ones less advertised. I'm not trying to take away from the upscale because I definitely like the wining and dining, but the ones less advertise did an excellent job. O.K. I know I used definitely too much but I love your island and will "definitely" be back and will go to both exclusive and non-advertised "local" hangouts!!!!

Well, according to Marty's definition the Toad & Tart is a hot local hangout. They have excellent food too.

My brother used to be a boatie moored near Yacht Haven Grande. His vote for best local hangout is the Sweetwater Rum House, or "The Rum Shak." It is located in the Havensight Mall parking lot. If you go, please tell Meghan that "Just Scott" says "Hello."

The Place To Be in Frenchtown is a great local bar to hang out in. It is the OLD Sunset Cantina. Check out the new web site. www.placetobevi.com
