Sometimes I have questions that I just have to find answers to or I can't rest...and this is one....

I recall seeing pictures of some little island (more like a cay)....very sandy with just a few palm trees on it...and very small. I thought it was Sandy Spit, but when I looked at pics of Sandy Spit today, it looks like it has too much greenery on it to be what I recall seeing.

I remember reading a caption of this island I am thinking of and the caption said it was one of the most photographed cays in the world and is the background for many ads.

Does anyone know what and where it is?

It was just a little drop of sand in the middle of a blue sea...with a few palm trees swaying....very tiny.

Any ideas?? This is going to drive me nuts until I solve it.

Bluwater,
Is it perhaps Sandy Island (a small cay about 1 mile off Anguilla)?

Try a googole search on Sandy Island and see if the pics are what you remember. Just to clarify though, Old pics of the cay show the palm trees, but they were destroyed by hurricane. The palms on the island now were planted to replace them and are still very short.

Happy Hunting!

CaribSoul-

I think you are right. I found pics of Sandy Island and some of them look like what I was thinking. Thank you! Also, I notied that some of the pics look really different, so I bet the hurricanes make a big difference....and I wonder now if I may have even been looking at Sandy Spit before a hurricane.

This is the pic I think I remember, which is Sandy Island...

How would I get to Sandy Spit from Jost? Would I need a private charter or do the water taxis on JVD make that run? Do you think I could just hire someone to drop me off and come back for me?

and Sandy Spit (BVI).....

Isn't it great! Sandy Spit is just to the east of Jost Van Dyke between Jost and Tortola. We chartered a boat for a day and that was one of the places we stopped to snorkel. It's the place you think of as the perfect little deserted island where you'd like to be marooned (with someone that you love).

Yes, it looks awesome. Now if I can just figure out a way over there from Jost.

I think I have an answer for you again. Twice in a week I can't believe it! Try this link. The guy does "eco tours" there. I've never been but we are planning on taking a ferry boat over to JVD for the day in April and I looked into all kinds of stuff.

There's day anchorage - would it be possible to rent a dinghy and go over?

Hey Bluewater,
Why don't you try the three hour tour on the SS Minnoe?

Bassman-

Is that a serious tour or are you joking? 🙂

Bluewater,
You people in Mass. need to lighten up a bit. Yes your picture reminded me of one of the opening scenes from Gilligan's Island. You might be freezing something off there but I hope it's not your sense of humor. You're the one that called it a "Weird Question".

For anyone interested, I believe Captain Clark and White Wing goes to Sandy Spit on the Jost run out of Coral Bay. They clear customs in tortolla then beach and snorkel at SS, go to Foxy's and the Bubbly Pool if you like.
