I am probably naive to think that I might actually manage to stay on a diet while I am on vacation, but in case I do, does anyone on this board know if there are any weight watchers meetings on STT or STJ?
IA Joe
On STJ, coconut milk and rum are on the plan
IA Joe, I don't know anything about the WW meetings - but I do know it is relatively easy to stay on a diet on the islands, as there are lots of healthy options wherever you go - lots of fruits & vegetables... grilled fish, chicken & meat, salads... it's like any other place - you just have to make the right choices... I am very anal when I go on vacation - I eat very healthy - whole grains, grilled fish, etc... but I do sample small amounts of "naughty" things - conch fritters, etc... and of course, an occassional Bushwacker :-)...
Thing is for me, I get so sad when I leave a vacation, I don't ever want to compound my sadness by gaining weight and having that to be upset about too 😀
Joe,
Just to let you know, I too am a WW member. We just came back from a 12 day cruise (out of NY) and I only gained 1 pound!!!!! I wasn't perfect by any means but I was concious of what I was eating. I kept to oatmeal, cereal, or eggs for breakfast with lots of fruit, NO SNACKING except fruit, ate lunch out usually on an island and ate a regular dinner (no seconds no desserts) I don't order desserts at home so I figured why start now. Good Luck and enjoy.
Weight Watchers in USVI? Do it when you come back. Enjoy the island life, its a memory you'll have forever. You won't be saying a year from now "Remember how good I did on my diet while on vacation, wasn't that great" Have fun.
It really wasn't too difficult for me to stay on program in the islands, or at least have minimum damage when I returned to the scale after vacation. It's easy to eat sensibly. There are so many great restaurants on both islands that serve grilled or broiled fish. That's pretty much what I order, even when I'm not watching my weight. Side salad and a portion of rice and you're set. If you're staying in a place with kitchen facilities, make your own breakfast.
In addition, get in the water and do some swimming, an excellent form of exercise. Wander around downtown Charlotte Amalie or Cruz Bay. Walk along the beaches.
The only thing I can't advise about is alcohol consumption. That can pose a problem, especially if you're one who equates vacation with lots of drinking and partying. I wonder just how many points a bushwhacker really has. On second thought, I think ignorance is bliss in this case.
When you get back and go to weigh in they shouldn't charge you for any missed weeks. Just tell them there are no WW centers in the islands and you couldn't weigh in. They've always waived the fee for me.
You'll be fine. I'll bet when you get home you'll find you haven't gained much, if anything at all.
