What are the legal aspects one needs in order to be married in St.Thomas? What papers or documents and how long does one need to be on the island before being married? We are planning to be married there next year.

Legalities of a Virgin Islands wedding... You have to request an application for a wedding license from the territorial court of the Virgin Islands. You can do this part from home. before you get to the islands. On St. Thomas or St. John that address and telephone number is Administrator/Clerk of the Territorial Court of the Virgin Islands, P.O. Box 70, St. Thomas USVI 00804 or call (340)774-6680. There is an 8th day waiting period after the courts receive your application. If either party is divorced, a certified copy of the divorce decree or a notarized affidavit stating the divorce was granted must be submitted. You need to request the application and the documents needed are listed there. You don't have to be on island for any specific period of time, however if you are doing the wedding planning yourself you will have to pick up your wedding license at the court house, so you will have to come to St. Thomas on a weekday - as the courts are closed on weekends. We have some people that come in on cruise ships for the day and get married here. Contact the court and get them to send you the application and you will have all the information there. Congrats!

There are several sites on the web that offer all the information including the license application. You fill it out, include all necessary information (including divorce papers, etc) and fees and send it off. Upon arrival on St. Thomas, you can pick up the license at the Court House (you have to provide the name of the "marrying person" at that time) and you are set. You can do this on your own or if you have a planner involved, she/he will help with all the arrangements. Try http://www.usviwedding.com/applink.htm for a copy of the license application.

Hello Jamie,

I have contacted the Hebrew Congregation. You should visit this site http://www.onepaper.com/synagogue/ and on the navigation choose the topic 'From the Rabbi'. Inside that topic there are about 5 articles addressing the procedures, what to expect, what you need to do to prepare,as well as who to contact and make arrangements.

I am getting married in St. Thomas on New year's Day.Because of the holiday, my hotel isn't performing ceremonies. However, a friend of ours has recommended a minister that her and her husband used. My question is whether anyone can give me the name of a good florist who can create a bridal bouquet and a bakery that can make a small cake. Thanks

If I am coming to St. Thomas on a Cruise Ship, what do I do? Do I catch
a cab to the Court House? How far away is it and is a huge hassel?

The court house is right in Charlotte Amalie - you can actually see the court house from the cruise ship dock at Havensight, it's that close - it is perhaps a 5 minute drive, maybe another 5 minutes if there is a lot of traffic. If you are coming into the Crown Bay dock - the drive will be maybe 15 minutes. Not far either way, it is not a huge hassel if you are asking about getting there.
