I am really exciting about having a wedding and honeymoon in the USVI next summer.........probably may or june 2005. I don't know hardly anything about the area. Anyone have any recommendations? Also, there will be approximately thirty people attending so we need to find cheap but nice accomodations for them. ANyone know of group rates at a place that also does nice wedding stuff right on the beach?? Thanks!

Hello,
Try the Hibiscus Beach Hotel on St. Croix - 340-773-4042. They do weddings there and the rooms are good and also air-conditioned. The location is quiet, too. We've eaten at places all over the island but never found better food and service than at Hibiscus. We also know of someone who does pictures whose phone number we can provide.

Thanks

Hey Lisa!

Congrats first.

I worked in the hotel industry in St. Thomas and I have some information that might help you.

First, when you inquire about rooms ask from the beginning for a group rate but make sure you know exactly how many people and how many rooms you need. It will make their job easier. All the resorts in St. Thomas offer group rates, if you were wondering.

Another thing, summer in the VI is off season and the rates are lower than during "season" (from December to the end of April - that's considered "season").

I think that if you go to Bolongo Bay Resort or Marriott in St. Thomas you will get a good deal. Both of them are on the south side of the island, Marriott is more highly ranked though, but you should get a 60-90$ / double occupancy - day rate. Bolongo I will push a 60$ but it depends sometimes because they are doing a semi-inclusive rate. Check though. Both hotels offer wedding packages on the beach, I will recommend more Bolongo because it's more laid back than Marriott and probably cheaper.

Send them an e-mail, both resorts have internet sites.

FYI... I did not work for neither of them, and I am not trying to push them to you...

Personally, I will chose Bolongo or Marriott for all the good reasons in the world. Read between the lines... I would not go to St. Croix though, maybe St. John if you don't want St. Thomas but it's going to cost you more to plan a wedding in St. John. The resorts there are 4-5 stars and the prices accordingly.

Hope this helps.

Anyway, the landscape and the beaches are great. We have great memories and some good pictures from there.

Hello,

Marriot Frenchmans offers complete wedding packages (wedding and rooms included). They have a nice gazebo area for weddings - sort of a garden setting. Sapphire also has wedding packages however I find the wedding area really really windy although its sort of neat - a short penisula at the end of the beach. Emerald Beach can do weddings poolside and may have complete wedding/room packages. Do your research between wedding/room packages and group discount see which ones offer you a better package for what you want for your wedding and what you want for your group in terms of accomodations. You might order a Vacation Planning Kit and a Guide Book for the USVI that way you can see brochures for lots of different places, read about areas, what there is to do and getting better informed about the islands and this will enable you to do your planning. You can find planning material at http://www.vitraders.com under Planning.
