hi everyone,

we are planning a wedding hopefully on st. john and am looking at 2 options:

1. have it at caneel bay

2. rent a villa and have both wedding and reception there. this option allows us to hire the vendors of our liking almost.

has anyone had experience with private villa weddings on st. john? or experience with certain vendors (caterers, photographers, videographers, etc).

thx, florence

You might do a search on this board. I believe I remember that many villa rental agencies will not allow a wedding as a part of the regular rental.

There is a web site called on-stjohn.com. There you will find a topic called Villas. Go to ultimate villas and you will find one called La Susa. They indicate that it is a perfect spot for a wedding reception. There are many other villas to check out.

We got married in St. John on the beach but had pictures taken at our villa. The photographer was Sonya Melescu. She did a really good job & we had awesome pictures on the deck of our villa with the gorgeous view as background. I also recommend using Today's Flowers, which is a florist in Cruz Bay.

My wife's best friend got married at Caneel about 3.5 years ago.

She had about 75 or so people there.

I believe if you have it Caneel, they'll give you there selection of vendors. But, im guessing that there is only a limited of vendors anyway.

Personally, I thought it was beautiful. They got married on a bluff right over the water, and the reception was at one of the restaurants/funtion spaces.

The guests came down at varying times during the prior week and made a vacation out of it. Some people stayed at Caneel, others stayed at Cinnamon Bay, villas, etc.

The night before, they had a boat ride with cocktails for all the guests that left directly from Caneel.

If I was going for a destination wedding, Id definitely consider Caneel.
