I was hoping you guys could offer some restaurant recommendations. We are getting married on Emerald Beach on a Sunday in July. We have a party of ten. The catering from Emerald Beach Resort seems a little sub par for the occasion, so after the ceremony we want to go to a very nice dinner somewhere. It will be 5-6 in the evening. Cost is not an issue. A nice place that has music would be great, if there is any such thing. Preferably not too far from Emerald Beach, but we will travel far if necessary. The coordinator has recommended Oceana but I haven't been able to find out much about it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Also, we are staying for 1 week, if you happen to know of any "happening" night spots, that would be great too! Thanks again, Kasey:-)

Nothing is really super-close to Emerald Beach, that I can think of.

The closest restaurants that we frequent are in Frenchtown- Alexander's Bella Blu, Craig & Sally's, Oceana, Noche, etc.

That's about 5 minutes by car/taxi from Emerald Beach.

Oceana's a nice (if pricey) spot on the water - views of Hassel island (and maybe Water, too- can't remember offhand). They have lovely fish and steak entrees, as well as a tapas-style bar to choose from. Good service. I think entrees are in the $25-40 range.

Craig & Sally's has been lauded for their great wine list. I really enjoy eating there, but some people seem so-so on it.

Alexander's Bella Blu is a fun place- we go there a lot- smallish (probably seats 50 ppl??) but great food. Not terribly spendy, either- so it's a nice balance.

Epernay is also in Frenchtown.

None of these places has live music that I know of, but I could be wrong.

But, you mention that you'd go far--- and nothing is really *that* far on the island- so you might want to do some research on other places. Banana Tree Grill overlooks town, so that's pretty close- as is Herve.

I wouldn't call any of these places "happening night spots" - but it depends on your definition. I think Oceana is probably the most "tropical" - in that it's open air, is very near the water, has views, etc.

In July, the sun will probably be setting around 6:30 (??)- so maybe go somewhere with a view? Mafolie/Banana Tree??

I guess it would be more helpful if you said what kind of crowd/food you're looking for.

Young? Fun? Boozey? Refined? Epicurean? Nice view? Is the music a top priority?

Best,

LR

Thank you for suggestions. I guess we'll just stick w/ Oceana? Music is ot a must, I just thought it might be nice. The dinner location amd "happening" night spot don't have to be one in the same. I was just looking for some fun things to do the 6 other nights we'll be there! Thank you again for your suggestions! Kasey

Hotel 1829 has been closed now for the second year!
Maybe the new boat Romatica may fit your bill. I know they have a piano on board, so someone must play it. You can cruise around St. Thomas harbor as you have dinner. Have to check to see if they do dinner on Sundays.

Hello Kasey,

Nightlife: Epernay, Stereo, Betsy's Bar, Greenhouse, Hard Rock, Tommy's... Catch a Caribbean show; Bolongo Bay Resort has a good one. Also check the events calendar (its under General at the top of this page) to see if anything is going on while you are here.

I'm a fan of Indigo over at Magen's Point resort. The tables surround a lit up pool with a waterfall and you have stunning views of Magens Bay.

The food is absolutley incredible and the staff is wonderful.

My 2 cents. Quiet and away form the hustle and bustle of downtown. Oceana is a good call but the drive out there is not very nice.

I personally dont take many visitors to Frenchtown because it is not as quaint and islandy.

STT Local,

I agree- INDiGO is a great restaurant- just a bit more of a drive from Emerald Beach Resort, which is why I recommended Oceana to Kasey in NC. What do you mean about the drive?? I've never had a problem with it- is there something new to know about?

Best,

LR

I would file this under everyone has an opinion... My own feeling is that Frenchtown gives visitors the idea of what the old St Thomas was like. Fishing boats and fish, locals and visitors, people of all walks of life drinking and dining... IMHO, Frenchtown is well worth a visit!!
