The ten day forecast shows showers every day next week, and not just scattered showers. Can we really expect all day rains or are they normally just short periods of rain? I know a rainy day in St John is better than a day most anywhere else, but I am depressed that the forecast is so dismal for my first visit.

Hello HB,

I just looked at the 5 and 15 day forecast that we have on this site (you can access it using the weather link in the top right corner) and it calls for 'partly sunny', 'mostly sunny', 'nice with sun and some clouds' 'humid with a good deal of sunshine'... and only one 'a morning shower possible'.

So I'd say that is a great forecast!!

To answer your question; no our rain showers are typically brief (and sometimes it might be raining on one part of the island and not the other). Also our rain showers are usually early morning showers rather than all day. We do sometimes get long rain showers, off and on throughout the day for a few days - this might be experienced in September-October-November, these months correlate with hurricane season (storm systems passing in the area often bring rain).

Enjoy your trip.

I got my lousy info from Weather.com. It still shows showers. I prefer never to check there again! I'll use the link above.

If you look on wether.com pay attention to the percentage if it says 40% chance there's a good chance it will not rain.

Super dave was on last night. Was at a bar and the sound was was off, but he was pointing at a tropical wave east of us. That could bring us rain next week.

I just returned last night from a week on STJ. While I was there I didn't even look at the weather forcast. Yes, it rained almost every day, maybe for 30 minutes or less. The sun would be out, and then it would rain for a few minutes, and the sun would come out again. So, beautiful weather, don't sweat it!

First we are talking about weather which is tough to predict especially in the islands. So let's see if I can make it more frustrating for you. I go to NOGAPS (Naval Opedrational Atomospheric Prediction System) I reach it through a website called BVIPirate.com. Example; from Nov 12th to 17th it showed medium to light green parked all over St Croix, meaning significant cloud cover. A tropical storm passed south even. The weather websites weatherunderground etc. predited 60-80% chance of rain. It did rain every day but it was very spotty, short & usually at night. There were many clouds but it was the big high puffy ones. So we had mucho sun & some nice shade periodically. It was great it did not curtail any activity.

Having said all this & since we are talking about the weather.
The only conctrete thing you can get from this is another weather website to check on.

you can always check www.stormvi.com and then click on the weather map to have it enlarge into a more detailed satellite view that updates every few minutes. The first map also puts the clouds in motion so you can see which way the weather fronts are moving and it shows rain concentrations represented by different colors.

We've had beautiful weather on STX the past few days. There is a band of clouds blowing across right now in contrast to the clear blue skies we had in the morning. Keep in mind that even if it rains for a few minutes, it's still in the 80's. And a passing shower gives you one more reason to stop in at whatever beach bar you're passing by and try their drink of the day!

Just an FYI from Joy who was just in St. John
2 weeks ago. I was obsessing over the weather
because everyday before we left I checked and for the
extended forecast (10 days) they said rain. Ok, there
version of rain is different than ours. It turned out
that it only rained a couple of times for 30 seconds one
time and the other in the middle of the night and that
was it. So, don't worry, you will have great weather!
