It looks like all the weather sites say it's raining ALL next week - does it mean soaking rain all day, where you have to stay inside, or can you still snorkel and enjoy your visit (hike in rain jackets OK!) with "off and on" rain? We're coming in July 8-13. I am hoping for a few nice, sunny days - let me know some insight in what this "rainy" forecast really means! THANKS!

There ain't much info on Woody's I would think. Its a very tiny, crowded, cheerful hole in the wall watering hole with fried food right in downtown Cruz Bay. We finally went on our last STJ trip and couldn't see what the big deal was (okay excuse me now while I duck the whacks cross the side of my head). If you like hot, noisy, tiny places full of the very people you just left behind on the mainland, then Woody's is your place. Otherwise, there are many more local places within spitting distance of Woody's with far more local flavor and maybe some elbow room. You will LOVE STJ. Weatherwise, expect short rain showers once in a while, followed by magnificant rainbows. No umbrellas needed, you'll dry right away.

I agree with Karrie...Woody's gets a little too crowdwd for me. The waiters spend half their time keeping customers on the curb so they don't get nailed by jeeps passing by. We usually head out to Skinny's.

Isn't Skinny's closer to Caneel Bay? We're staying near Salt Pond Bay, way east on the island - I've heard all good things about Skinny's, we'll see you there! We're fishing late on Mon, Tues nights, but other nights we're in STJ, I'm sure we'll be looking for a hangout! ONLY A FEW DAYS TIL WE LEAVE - YIPPEEEE!!

Skinny's is very close to Salt Pond. On your way back from Salt Pond you'll come to a "T" in the road with a baseball field on your right. Left leads you towards Cruz Bay and right will take you to Skinny's. Its a few hundred yards from the intersection just past the fire house. We're usually there by late afternoon. Might see you there Sunday or Wednesday. We fly down this Saturday.......FINALLY!!!!!

STT Res:

With all that snow....how on earth are you going to get up that hill to go to the K-Mart?

Better get a pair of snow shoes.

Yesterday in NJ it was 95 and sunny. Not like you snowed in USVIers.

Future Islander: I'm not really too worried about the main roads. The Department of Public Works (not to mention the VI Govt in general) has an excellent reputation for keeping their equipment in tip-top condition and word is that, over 20 years ago, they appropriated a few million from the Education fund to purchase several snow ploughs. These ploughs have allegedly been stored all these years next to the Bovoni dump and are ready to roll at a moment's notice.

Cheers!

Probably. After all these years as an ex-pat, I still have a problem thinking about spellings such as "neighbour" for "neighbor," "colour" for "color" and "plough" for "plow."

The last letter of the alphabet which in Brit is "Zed" wasn't a problem and I can easily say "A to Zee" quite comofrtably with only a little brain click.

But I still can't say the staccato, "CANT" where, "Caarnt" is concerned and I've always get a chuckle from friends and customers if I call them a "cheeky bAArstard" in the vernacular close to my origins rather than the infinitely more demeaning American "BAstard!" which spits out the first syllable in a most nasty fashion.

Sorry all, shouldn't have bunged up this thread with semantics and spellings!

I trust all my American buds out there are enjoying all the Independence celebrations in fine form and are also pausing to reflect on America's present course as it compares to what was originally planned.

Cheers!

I just got back from St. John and encountered a bit of bad weather on a Friday. It was sufficiently bad that my day sail to Jost Van Dyke was cancelled. I was looking forward to the sail, so this was really disappointing. I had no plans for the day, so I thought I would just explore. I ended up on the beach at Francis Bay, which I had all to myself for much of the morning. The skies eventually cleared and I was treated to a great day on one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. I guess when life gives you lemons, you make a lemon smoothie!

Thanks, Boston - no matter what, I could be sitting in a hammock with rain falling right on me, with a cocktail and a waterproof book, and it will be awesome just to be away from work and relaxing! Glad you had a good time - was Francis really nice? What wildlife did you see, I'm on the search for turtles!

Francis is the type of beach that reminds you of a Corona commercial. A wide expanse of white sand with torquoise waters. The center of the beach is free of rocks, coral, etc., so it's actually a great place to go for a swim or just lounge in the water. There's decent snorkeling on the right side. Lots of baracuda. I saw a few stingrays as well. The left side leads over to Maho, where you'll find the sea turtles you're looking for. In the late afternoon, you can sit on the beach at Maho and watch turtle after turtle periscope to the surface for air. I miss it already. 🙁
