I know this subject has been brought up several times before but recently in checking several weather forecast services for St. Thomas--of which I'm now addicted--I've noticed that the upcoming week looks particularly menacing weatherwise. Usually there's around a 30% chance of rain or T-storms on weather.com and accuweather will refute this information by forecasting a week of "partly cloudy" weather. This week both sites have predicted a significant amount bad weather. I'm coming down this weekend and am wondering if I somehow stumbled into the rainiest week of the year or if I'm worrying about the weather for no reason.
Can someone give me some guidance and ease my concerns here. There aren't enough "Painkillers" in the world to get me through a week of rain in Paradise.
We just finished three weeks on STX and found more of a problem with wind right now than rain. The rain did not last long and we could usually still find plenty to do but the wind never stopped the last week. We had plenty of sunshine mixed with clouds and only one really overcast day. The wind got a bit irritating after a while on the beaches and on our patio but seemed welcome downtown shopping as it got a bit warmer there.
It was still a great vacation. Good luck with your week!
This weekend is scheduled to be a little overcast with scattered showers. Remember most of these showers happen between bed time and breakfast so they are not too inconvenient. Skies are clearing today and clouding back on Friday but a bad day here is incredible!
Hello Danny,
You might visit https://www.vinow.com/usvi/weather.php
While May isn't our rainiest month it does rank 5th according to the stats. Was cloudy today with one or two brief showers, some sunshine poking through. It is clearing up a bit as yesterday is was overcast also.

It pretty much rains every day for short periods of time and then stops. Rainy season is your North American winter and I'd say you're well out of its reach in May. Don't be misled by the weather forecasts. Seriously, EVERY DAY there's a 30% chance of rain. Every day, but not ALL DAY. Thunderstorms are rare.
I am looking into chartering a motor yacht. Can someone tell me what the average price of fuel is per gallon at some of the marinas in and around the USVA and BVI?
Remember this important fact which I have posted more than once.....30% chance of rain, the negative side of such a forecast, has a positive side that I would urge you to embrace - 70% chance of sunshine!
As others have said, the rain comes and goes and you get on with your day. Note the temperature...usually in the 80's.
We've had one week where it rained and was ugly grey for a whole week - back in November, and old timers said it was the worst storm they had in 30 years.
So don't worry about painkillers, come and enjoy - even a refreshing shower here feels different than stateside.
Einstein, I answered your seperate post about marine fuel - $1.90 a gallon at Fish Hawk Marnina - which I saw last week on Friday when I was onboard a boat that filled up.
Speaking of rain... being from Florida we too get the same rain showers off and on in the summer - nothing to ruin our day though.
Hurricanes are rare for us too but how do the islands fare? I am just .5% worried about one spinning around when we come down the first week of August - has STT ever been threatened that early?
We will get TS and Hurricanes in the early months due to the warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico but I know hurricane season doesn't really kick into high speed until September - just curious about what to expect for daily "normal" weather August 3-11.
rtsunset,
I'm from Florida too. The weather here in August is pretty much the same as North Florida - hot and sticky but not as humid as it is there. Trade winds are slowing down a bit and it rains a little more than the winter months. Usually in August if anything is coming around it is a TS not a full fledged hurricane or as I like to call them "named wind storm events" (just sounds better). Just to be on the safe side, you might want to check into trip cancellation insurance.
Pamela.
Read the article in today's newspaper - May is reported as our rainest month and this one has been extra rainy!
