How is the weather in early August? I'm not so much worried about the heat, as the rain or any hurricane activity.
Any thoughts?

Hi There,

We will be back down on St. Thomas the first part of August for the sixth or seventh year running now. It will be hot, hot, hot with lots of sun and humidity. You will get occasional, brief showers...the ones at night you won't even notice....during the day if you get one, wait 30 minutes and you won't be able to tell it ever rained. In 19 years of going to STT in July and August we have never hit a problem with canes.....an occasional tropical wave floating by, but that's about it.

well Schultz - you have kind of put my mind at ease - not real sure I booked this vacation at the right time - from everything that I have been reading on this message board the crime rate is high - the bugs are terrible and I need cases of suncreen - so what is the real truth

Hi Again,

For a tourist the crime issue is a non-issue. Act responsibly like you would at home and stay out of placed you wouldn't frequent at home and you will be just fine. I've been going to STT since 1987 and never once had a problem.

We've never had a problem with bugs in August.......they are much worse in the seasons when you get more standing water on the ground due to more frequent rains. No-seeums can be bad at dusk near the water'e edge so take repellant. Otherwise the steady breeze seems to eliminate a lot of the skeeter problems.

Yes, if you are not used to the strong sun, you will need a lot of sunscreen....but don't worry, KMart has a great selection if you don't want to bring it with you.

You should be more concerned about bringing extra swim suits....and definitely bring a good appetite so you enjoy the great restaurants all over the island.
