I have been watching the weather closely this week since we were supposed to be on the islands and we are glad we postponed to December. I wanted to ask you guys is the flooding really as bad as the weather channel are saying it is? Almost every place i check for weather state "Severe weather Alerts" for STT & STJ. Is it this bad?
Normally, we have pretty nice weather, but this system affected us for a long time.
We had at least 7 lousy days in a row. With a few poking us from the sidelines on either side. It happens! I know that many read about the "liquid sunshine" type showers that we are all used to, but this system was rotten to the core. On the other hand, we enjoy the full cisterns (we don't all have benefit of municipal water systems in the hilly terrain) when this kind of thing happens.
I was in the BVI over the past weekend (Tortola/Virgin Gorda), and it was overcast, raining and pouring the whole time, except for a few isolated hours of beautiful, breezy, sunny skies. But then, in my opinion, there's no such thing as a "bad" day on Tortola!!!
I know that people who save all year for a vacation don't want to see too much rainy weather, but we do sometimes get spells like this from time to time. They are so rare over the course of the year that they DO make the news!
If you see us saying not to panic, you pretty much have reason to calm down. But when we say, "Whoa, Nelly!", you know we're expecting something... This one that just passed: "Whoa, Nelly!"
Keep track of the weather via the link on this web site at the top. It's on the right, below the "Go" button.
We will be there on Thursday and I can't wait! Just in case it is still raining, does anyone have any suggestions on where to go hang out on STJ to pass the time? Any great local bars we should visit?
Thanks for all the advise!!
I particularly like the Beach Bar when it is raining. Watching the ferry come andy go and playing Connect-4. They keep some games behind the bar.
Well it looks like all this rain its turning into a hurricane even though it's far away from your guys i am sure you guys are feeling parts of it. I guess her name is Wilma.
Good luck.....
I am not sure if Wilma had her origins with the weather system that just affected us, but all day, it was partly cloudy with passing showers and brilliant sunshine in between.
We are not feeling Tropical Storm Wilma right now. Thanks for the good wishes, Hurricane Season officially runs June 1st through November 30th! We may need them later.
No, the flooding is not as bad as it is being made out. Most of it is gone by now (evaporated), with the worst flooding parts of the island being in Bovoni and in Havensight area. Nothing to worry about.
And, Wilma is now threatening to blow through the West Coast of Florida. Arrrgh! Serves me right for removing & stowing my hurricane shutters last weekend. Waiting until tomorrow to make final decision but I suspect I will be very busy on Friday stowing, tieing, lifting, pushing, packing............doing the Hurricane Dance. Let's hope tomorrow brings a better outlook for the southwest coast of Florida. And for goodness sakes - may this be the LAST dance of the season!
I will say a prayer for you guys down there....
