What is the weather like in late June? Is it unbearably humid or island temperate?

Hi Jerry,
My answer would be bearable.
I was there visiting July of last year. I guess depending on where you're coming from... it was hot, humid mostly but depending on where you're staying on island, could be nice breezes to cool it down a bit.
I've lived in FLA for 5 years now so I'd say the weather was a bit nicer than SW FLA mostly due to the breezes and lower humidity.
