I want so badly to visit St Thomas. But the only month I can get off from work this year is Auguest. I hear it rains all the time in that month please say it isn't so.

Thanks
Janet

Janet,

It isn't so. I've gone to St. Thomas for two weeks every August since 1997, and the worst I've ever experienced was one completely rainy day. There's been rain, for sure, but it lasts for about 20 minutes or so when it happens. I find it best to stay in the water during those brief showers. Often it'll be raining in one spot of the island and another will stay completely dry. Otherwise the rain seemed to fall at nighttime.

Oh, I forgot, last year Tropical Storm Dean passed by the south of St. Thomas and churned up the sea quite a bit and did cause a bit of rain, but again, one day out of a two week stay. That was the only time I ever felt the effects of any kind of tropical weather disturbance.

I love the weather in August. Yes, it's hot and humid, but hardly as oppressively humid as it is at home in NY.

August is also great because it is low season and there are a lot fewer tourists and a lot fewer cruise ships in port. No need for reservations anywhere. Traffic is lighter. It's a wonderful time of year to go to St. Thomas.

Thank you so much, totally what I wanted to hear. I am also a New Yorker and last year I cruised to Fla and The Bahamas. Fla was hotter and the humidity was horrible. The weather in The Bahamas was perfect.

Thanks Gerie

Janet and Gerie,
Where are you from in New York? City? Elsewhere?

August usually isn't very bad at all for rain, in November there seems to be more rain.

Sherri,

I'm from Long Island. If I remember correctly, you are from upstate, although a long time ago, right?

You must be nuts! The weather down here in August is MUCH better than that of New York. We live here and rent places to many people and it is not bad at all PROVIDED that you are where there is a breeze. Stay at Sapphire Beach or somewhere on the east end. But if you stay at say on the west side at emmerald beach it still will be less humid than NY.

Gerie and Janet,
Thanx for the reply!
Gerie, you are right, I am from just outside of Ithaca, or Corning, NY area! Nice for both of you to have that direct flight down from NY!!! I always have to do 2 to 3 flights to get home!!!!! Long ago as you mentioned! Been in STT for 24 years now and lovin' it! 🙂
Janet,
You will be just fine in August! Do you have an idea of where you are thinkin' of staying?
