On our cruise itinerary we will be visiting St. Thomas,St Maarten,Tortola,CoCo Cay,Grand Bahama Island. I am looking for a place to take my kids to see a waterfall. We did this once before and loved it. Does anyone know of a place? I don't want it to be a hard climb because there will be some younger kids in our group of 18 people. Any suggestions for any other off the beaten path places would be great..

I don't know of any in St. Thomas, St. Maarten or Tortola. Can't speak to the other islands you mentioned.

mokane: None of those islands has a river. There is a semi-waterfall on St John, near the end of the Reef Bay trail, but it only appears after rain. It has been so very dry here of late. 🙁

Does your cruise begin on Puerto Rico? If so, there are magnificent waterfalls in the national rainforest - El Yunque. Some can be seen from the road and others are accessible via hike. We hiked on one trail that led us to a grotto with a waterfall and natural swimming pool at the end of the trail, in which we went swimming- I think it is the La Mina trail. If youe cruise will not begin on Puerto Rico, but your kids are interested in waterfalls, it might be worth a special visit to PR just to visit the national rainforest.

THANKS A TONS! Your answers have been very helpfull.
Our itinerary starts in Puerto Rico so I will definitly check if we have enough time to check this out. But I am not sure we might be cutting it close. We get to Puerto Rico at 1 p.m and our cruise leaves port at 6 p.m.

hmmmm...it has been about 6 years, so I cannot recall how far El Yunque is from San Juan. I'm thinking it was about 45 mins to an hour......and then the hike down the trail was another hour. You'll need to find a trail you can see from the road, if at all. Also, on the way back to San Juan, we ran into some kind of street festival that made the ride take forever.....it was fun for us (so slow that we got out of the car and bought food on the roadside without missing our place on the highway)....but this is not what you want when trying to catch a cruise!! I don;t recommend this sidetrip for your visit, this time around.
