I stayed at the Sugar Bird Hotel on Water Island in 1981... what happened to it? I can't find any references to it anywhere. It was a beautiful place! Any info?

Hello Kay,

The hotel was destroyed in 1989 by Hurricane Hugo. The lease, the owner had expired in 1992 and wasn't renewed.

Today you can stay at one of the several private homes offered as vacation rentals. Click on the Water Island guide at the top of this very page, in the blue bar, above the books. And then in Accommodations you will find some choices.
