we will be staying on water island in december for a few weeks, our sons of college age will be joining us for part of the time. i am concerned that they will want to check out the night life on stt and the ferry to water isl. only runs until 6 on weekday evenings. we've been told that you can make arrangements for later ferry runs for extra $ do you know how much $ we are talking about? are there other ways to get back and forth between stt and water isl.?

also, i don't see much about water island here on message board...can you give me any general info which is not posted on visitors guide?

Hello Liz,

Last time I checked (about 6 months ago) the rates for special runs on the Water Island ferry were $35 minimum for up to 5 people and $7 each additional person. You may want to call them and find out just how late they will run... are your boys going to want to come back at 11, 12, 1am... and the exact cost for a ferry at that time of the evening.

What type of information concerning Water Island are you looking for? Posting your specific questions/concerns would be better.

hi islander

thanks for your info

yes i suppose the boys will be getting in late. i will call. thanks
with 18 and 19 yr old sons, do you think we'd be better off staying on stt due to the hassle of getting back and forth? or do you think they can survive on water isl.?

do you know if we can rent bicycles on water island?
is there any night life at all on water island?
do you know of a more detailed map of the island which i could download
how is the snorkeling/diving on water island
do you know what it might cost to rent a small boat on water isl. or stt by the week?
is there short term dockage available for rent on water isl. prices?

sorry for so many questions, i really appreciate your time and knowlege

Hello,

You said that your boys will join you for only part of the trip, so perhaps you could split your time between the two islands.

If they are on island for a few days they can survive... if they are on island for 2 weeks they might get frustrated.

do you know if we can rent bicycles on water island?

There is a bike tour offered by Water Island Adventures. Contact them and see about renting bikes. http://www.waterislandadventures.com

is there any night life at all on water island?

No party, club type nightlife. There is Pirates Ridge which offers different dinner menus and they have an open air bar; its an adult crowd, chatting, having drinks... no music and jumping around. Inside there is usually a group of older folks playing dominos and families having dinner. On Saturday nights there is a beach dinner offered by Heidi's Honeymoon Grill (a food van); good food, on the beach, good time. Thats it.

do you know of a more detailed map of the island which i could download

The map on this site shows the roads. There are no road numbers (that I have ever seen, the only sign on the island that I have noticed is a stop sign on the road to the fort), the island is only 491 acres and walking is a suitable mode of transportation, or if your place comes with a golf cart or car that makes things easier. I don't know of any other maps.

how is the snorkeling/diving on water island.

Snorkeling is ok at Honeymoon. Diving - not sure, there aren't any diving outfits on the island; but you can set one up on St. Thomas.

do you know what it might cost to rent a small boat on water isl. or stt by the week?

No boat rentals on Water Island. I know that one of the accomodations has a boat that they rent out to their guests (Providence Point Cottage). You can try Waters Edge on St. Thomas to see if they do weekly rentals http://www.stthomasboatrental.com

is there short term dockage available for rent on water isl. prices?

The dock at Flamingo Bay seems to be use at your own risk. And the bay is a desginated mooring & anchoring area.
