I am looking at renting a villa on Water Island in April or May. Could someone tell me more information regarding this island. Also, I understand that the only deli/grocery/restaurant is or will be under renovations during this time. Do you have any information on this?

How do you get around on Water Island. Is it worth spending a day at Honeymoon Beach? It looks beautiful in the pictures I have seen.

Thanks,

Denise

Deniseb, you need to get to Crown Bay Marina (Subbase). Go to Tickles and you will see the Water Island ferry in the first slip on the corner of the sea wall that runs along Tickles. I'm not sure how much one-way passage costs - maybe someone on this board can provide.

one way on the ferry is $5. takes about 7 minutes. Ferry runs about 8 times a day, so if you get bored on honeymoon beach you can leave any time. if you like quiet, cold drinks and good lunch food a day will suit you. if you like a lot of activity, don't go. also, the walk from the ferry to honeymoon is up a steep hill and down, so if you go travel light.

Once we get off the ferry, how do we get to Honeymoon Beach and then back to the ferry dock?

Thanks,

Denise

Deniseb, Directions: Get off the ferry and walk straight up the road. You'll pass the Casa apartments on your left (about 9 units, old stone buildings with a white cement-small column formed low fence or border). At the top of this relatively small incline / road, you'll see a road to your right which goes down to Honeymoon Beach. (You'll actually see the coconut palms on Honeymoon Beach.) Go down the road/hill and you'll see Honeymoon Beach on your right. Its about.....oh.......I dunno.......maybe a 5 minute walk from the ferry landing.

To all those who are considering Water Island for the day:
There's more excitement and people on Saturday and Sunday. The WI residents as well as STT residents get down to Honeymoon Beach on Sundays and have a great ole' time. There's always a couple of tables of Domino players. There's a buoy swimming area with a swim platform securely screwed into the sand that's an enjoyable and refreshing "destination". Snorkeling to the right-most or the left-most sides offers some marine life activity and its very calm @ Honeymoon Beach so its great for low to medium skill level snorkelers. There had been talk for years of WI residents wanting a swim platform but no one wanted the liability. Then, one morning it was just mysteriously THERE. And, we've been enjoying it ever since. On Sundays, Monte and others bring their guitars and other instruments and have a jam session at Joe's Beach Bar. Weekdays are, as IKEN suggested, much more quiet. Regarding the hill being steep.......IMHO, the hill from ferry to the place where you turn right is not steep, but I do agree that the hill from Honeymoon Beach is steep. The good news is, you only have to go UP the very steep road from the beach to the ferry landing ONCE or, if you go on Saturday or Sunday, maybe one of the residents will give you lift to the ferry landing in their golf cart or island car. Very friendly folks those Water Islanders.
