*Can you tell me what happened to the Sea Cliff resort on Water Island? My husband and I honeymooned there in Oct. of 1986. Thank you. Pat
Pat,
Welcome to the board, thanks for your interest in Water Island!!
The Sugar Bird Hotel that became Sea Cliff Hotel was severely damaged in Hurricane Hugo - 1989. The hotel closed and the ruins were removed in 1998.... The Island was transfered the VI government in 1996 and I think the property the hotel was on was also left to the gov't. There are about 161 people living on Water Island (as of Census 2000) and there are no hotels there presently but there are villas you can stay at if you want to go back to Water Island. Check the guide on this site to see whats going on there now.

Ok what was the hotel on Water Island called back in the mid 70's we lived on the island then and stayed at the hotel when we first arrived. I wish I could remember the name of the other 2 places we lived...I do know one place was there off the point of Honeymoon beach. Laura
Hello Laura,
The point of Honeymoon beach might be Providence Point Villa... there used to be a place called Limestone Reef Terraces Guest Apartments also - perhaps you stayed there... it was sold a couple years back and the new owner was renovating it for short term stays but I think its being used for apartments by island residents right now.
The hotel was Sugar Bird Hotel and later Sea Cliff Hotel. And I believe when Walter Phillips sold it the new name was Water Isle Hotel and Beach Club.

Yes that is the name of the place Limestone...we lived there .. a guy named Peter ran the place, english accent I think. And there was a house on the point not far from where the ferry came in...I remember it was a dark yellow. Water Isle Hotel and Beach club that was it and at one time they had an old pirate ship tied up to the dock. Thanks Islander. Brings back some fond memories..
